Hello August Staplers.
I'm not certain if I should be in this group or not. I had RNY surgery August 26 at Adirondack Medical Center, in Saranac Lake, NY and I am so tickled that I did it. My starting weight in January of '08 was 280 lbs. I lost 30 and during the 22 month process, I gained back 22 lbs before my surgery. My surgery went extremely well. I've lost the insulin, blood pressure medicine and 55 lbs. Woohoo. All my adult life I have been overweight. When I was a child my brothers called me fat, and I have always thought of myself that way. I have gone from a size 22/24 to 18/20 so far and I am so pleased with myself. I never thought in those 22 months that I would go through with the surgery, but 5 months before my by-pass I had to have a hysterectomy and that went so well, I then knew that I'd have the bypass. After two major surgeries in 5 months, I'm fully recovered and I have so much energy, it's sickening. I've cleaned everything in my home, twice!!! I used to have to sit down every 1/2 hour and now, I work all day and wonder where the time went. I'm such a happier person. I feel healthy and THIN. For the first time in my life, I FEEL THIN!!!!

Of COURSE you belong here sweetie. Welcome aboard.
Dosen't it just blow your mind how much your entire life can change with a couple hours in the OR? I am still wicked amazed.
You are doing such an amazingly wonderful job. I had surgery on the 20th and am only down 47lbs. What am I saying....ONLY 47?!?!?!?!?!
What seems even stranger to me is that I get so excited over going to the gym now. I mean really who woulda thought? I feel so nasty if I miss my morning wake up (it's a light toning and slow cardio thing. No sweatin on this one) and just beat the tar out of myself if I miss my evening torture. I was wicked sick last week and couldn't get out of bed so I felt even worse coz I could not even lift my hand weights.
Anyway, keep us posted and good on ya.
~*~huge hugs~*~

I'm new (my first post! but I've been lurking for a good 6 months) and an august stapler (august 4th). I'm not doing as well as I thought (I've only lost 34 lbs), but I'm grateful for the energy and being able to fit into old clothes again. I had my surgery at the University of Chicago under the care of Dr. Vivek N. Prachand. I had a few set backs ( 2 ER visits - one for a internal bleeding caused by Lovenox and the second visit was for a swollen stroma).
It's hard not to be discouraged when you're following all recommendations to a 'T' and barely not losing. But if it took me 23 years to put it on, so it will take time to get it off.

Hi everyone! I was very excited thinking that I was finally the right size to start doing Wii Fit, however, I climbed on the thing, and it said I was over the weight limit! How embarrassing and depressing, I thought the weight limit was 350, turns out it is 330. However, we also bought the EA Active, which does not require the Wii Fit board. I did the first day of the 30 day challenge, but I only made it through about 10 minutes. It KICKED my butt. Like seriously! I was wicked impressed by how much of a work out it really was. I will be trying it again today, but my muscles are soooo sore. I was walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes at a brisk pace, but that did nothing comparitively. I highly recommend the EA Active for anyone who has a wii.
Also, I am down 85 pounds from my highest weight, and 65 pounds since surgery. I feel great, and though I didn't meet the weight requirements for Wii fit, I was able to take my son trick or treating, and walk for at least 2 miles before we headed back. I would have been exhausted walking around the block pre-surgey. This was all before doing the EA active, which might have been why I was so tired.

Good for you sweetie! I'm gonna have to look into the EA active! I never thought I'd say this, but I LIKE getting my butt kicked by a workout!

Back problems from weight loss?
Ever since I lost the first 22 lbs I have had continuing back problem which is escalating as I lose more weight. Has anyone else had this problem. I am still waiting for my doctors appt. so have no diagnosis. Just wondering if someone else has experienced this problem? had my surgery Aug. 26 and have lost 57 lbs as of this morning.

Good for you for getting such a good jump start on the exercise bit. Wow you are doing great with the weight loss too! Won't be long before that wii fit will be put to good use. Keep it up!

Not sure of the cause, but I woke up with major back pain in the recovery room after surgery. It's was off and on for the first 8 weeks, but it seems to be getting better. Just my story, I know it won't help much. Hope you get good info from your doc. Let us know!

Leboire, my WLS program inludes a physical trainer, and he warned us early on that our backs our likely out of whack from the weight so many of us have carried for so long. He urged us to take particular care in strengthening and flexing there until it gets into the proper allignment. If your program doesn't have such a person (we get three free visits with our physical trainer), perhaps physical therapy would help?
I just had surgery and haven't gone to our trainer one-on-one yet, or I'd share what I learned already.
