thanks Mike. I do believe in God and that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it has taken me years to figure out that reason, but it always becomes clear at some point. I did end up developing a fever yesterday, over 101 and called my doc, who send me to ER, was there 5 hrs (11pm-4am) they ran every test, determined it was possibly a wound infection and sent me home with a Z-pack. Thank God i was not admitted. Today is the 4th of July and it's one of our most favorite holidays, so at least I'm home. What do u think about the gastric sleeve? Anyone had it done or knows someone who has? Thanks!

I had mine 4 years, and I was worried that he would run into more issues when removing it, but scar tissue was all he found. So, do you think you will try again in 3 months? Does your insurance cover the gastric sleeve? I heard that ins still didnt cover it because it was so new.
I've had by band almost exactly 7 years, but have had 3 other surgeries r/t band problems, so the problems started after about 2 years out. It's good you didn't have too many issues or scar problems with your band. it's my understanding that conversion usually goes smoothly, but of course, I had to be the exception! My doc wants to try the gastric sleeve in 3 months. Not sure about insurance, but they have a great insurance lady who will try her best to get it covered. My doc said she took lots of pics of the damage inside there to support her recommendation. We'll see. Another waiting game. I started this process in Nov, so it may come full circle and be 1 year before it's all taken care of. How are u doing?

I am going to have protein now.

Cami's mom, hoping they can do the sleeve on you, that actually is a very good surgery. My mom had it and the diversion 12 years ago, and is still going very strong. She lost 150 lbs, and was able to keep off about 130.
Thanks Paula. My surgeon said they had been using the sleeve as a step towards bypass on the very obese, but found that they never even needed to convert them, as they were doing very well, were very healthy and lost good amts of weight. So maybe that's the ticket for me. There may be a reason why the Bypass would not have worked for me, that I am not aware of, so it's just fate I guess. I would not complain if I lost "most" of the weight. I just need to get the diabetes to go away. That's my goal-to be healthy.

I am down 24. I had mine June 19th. I can't wait to be under 200 lbs. That's my goal for when I return to work. I am taking a full 6 weeks off, because I work for the USPS, and I lift heavy stuff.
Anyone else going back to work yet?
I'm taking a full 6 weeks off too. I feel like a truck ran over me, then dragged me a bit.

Look for "Aviator's Logbook" under personal stories. He had the sleeve, and is doing very well with it. Haven't seen him post on here lately, but you might try to PM him for more information.

It's my understanding that some insurance companies don't like to cover the sleeve since it's a newer procedure, but I think many will if there is a good reason a person needs that instead of a gastric bypass, and you certainly have a good reason.

Yeah, it is only a couple of years old really but Kaiser is starting to do it so others will soon follow. I have a friend who is having it done on the 14th because she is very anemic and the surgeon thinks doing traditional RNY would make it far worse.
