My surgeon said that in maybe 3 months, when the tissues heal, she may consider the gastric sleeve instead of the bypass, not sure why, but that is what the plan is. Many incisions- 7 i think- one of them started oozing serosang fluid this afternoon, I put a telfa on it, hope it stops. No fever, lots of pain, some nausea, some gas pain. I was anemic, lost a lot of blood in surg, so they made me stay 1 more night. H & H is still low, but acceptable I guess. I must stay on full liquids for another 2 wks. Sorry, it's not a good outcome, but at least I'm alive. I have been through so much-this is my 10th surg-so there's no way that I could have expected this to go "textbook". Thanks for your good thoughts and support, I will keep u updated.

I don't know if you believe in G.O.D. or not, but whenever something like this happens to me...(I got sick with severe pancreatitis a month before surgery and had to wait 3 months)...I always try to remember that everything happens for a reason, and that God will only let you suffer through trials that He KNOWS you can endure.
You will be suprised by how strong you will be. Don't give up.

I tried corn tortillas last night and no go on those either. I think I may eventually just stop wanting bread, but b/c that was basically my staple pre-surg I am having a hard time letting go.

Well, that just sucks!! Maybe later on you will be able to tolerate them. I just got a big stack of the corn tortillas, but have not had an opportunity to try them. I rarely ate corn tortillas (soft) pre-surgery, so I will probably love them and tolerate them!

Hey Mike. It's going okay. I am still having trouble eating much. I have no appetite and have to remind myself to eat. I have to also remind myself to slow down whenever I do eat or I get sick. I have thrown up once, and been really really uncomfortable several times. The good news is that I am down 37 lbs. I think more would be coming off if I could get out and walk. I has been raining at the times I have been supposed to walk. (I have to schedule my times due to my husband's work). I will be happy when I can eat salad again, I have been craving salad for some reason.
Hey thanks for asking! How are things with you?

Annie - I did a search and Miralax seemed to be recommended by several people so I am going with that for now. I just throw it in with a protein shake in the morning for liquid, protein and laxative all in one!! I hope things start moving along now!! Do you take a regular pill or something that disolves in liquid or ??
Nikki I take a liquigel cap everyday. It is colace (spelling?) Not a laxative but a stool softener. My MIL works at my pharmacy, so she told me what to get. Because it is a liquigel, it dissolves easily and I haven't had any problems. Good luck. Before surgery I had the same probs you are having now, and it was horrible.

Nikki I have had taco meat twice. I am 4 weeks out, but the first time I had taco meat was at about 2 weeks. My kids and I were running errands. They got hungry, but I was fine LOL. We stopped at Taco Bell, I got one soft taco with no lettuce and added sour cream. I just ate the insides not the shell, and it was fine. It was one of the best things cuz me loves me tacos. I have also had my own homemade meat balls and a hamburger on the grill. Good luck.

Yes, I read about that colace stuff, too....i will check into that as well. My daughter had some issues a few months back and got a prescription for the Miralax (free through military) so I have access to that at the moment!!

I think we are going to try this tonight at home. I am leary about the shell, but i got some soft corn tortillas to try. I might get the crunchy shells, though and crunch them up and make a little taco salad instead....minus lettuce - so taco shell and meat and maybe a little salsa!! Oh and cheese!! should be good!!!

I tried "food" today. I made a very loose instant mashed potates "soup" 3 tsp of flakes in about 3 oz water. I was able to eat it all....which sort of surprised me...hoping that it just went through. I still felt a little hungry after that, so I had my Crystal light. Hope I don't ever want big meals again.
I am going to have protein now.
Cami's mom, hoping they can do the sleeve on you, that actually is a very good surgery. My mom had it and the diversion 12 years ago, and is still going very strong. She lost 150 lbs, and was able to keep off about 130.

I know everyone is different, but I'm just curious to hear when everyone started feeling better after surgery. I had surgery on the 30th, and I'm not as sore, but I feel weak and tired. I'm on my 2nd day of clear liquids. Did anyone else experience this, and how long did it last for you?

As far as pain, I didn't have much at all when I got home really. Days 2 and 3 I felt great, day 4 I woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus and had a low fever all day. Day 5 woke up feeling fine and it just got better from there. At first I noticed I had great energy, I could walk around a store and shop and be fine then suddenly I was exhausted and crabby and had to go home *immediately* where I would sit for an hour or two before I got my energy back. Yesterday (day 8 I think?) I spent 2 hours shopping at the mall with my daughter, got my hair done, then came home and took a 2 hour nap. So while I have no pain at all at this point, I can feel a kind of pulling if I forget and try to pick up something too heavy and everyday I can more and more energy. I can't help but wonder though if part of the energy thing though is because of the diet at this point too.
