Default Pre Op Diet....Rants and probably NO Raves!

So I though it would be fun for all of us to have a spot to complain as needed and give encouragement as needed for this horrible liquid diet of doom! I know I need the encouragment as I start this adventure today! I woke up with the right attitude and then decided to head into work for the day to keep busy. I am never at my store on Saturdays, but i will keep extrememly busy this way. Especially since I have to prepare to be out of here for four weeks! So so far so good!

Good to hear that Kay. I start my liquid diet on Monday. This is good encouragement. I actually have to be on the diet for 2 months so I am not looking forward to it but I have to lose 30lbs before surgery. I gained last month and I am not too happy about it however I am not going to beat myself up.

I started my liquid diet on Tuesday (5/5) and it is rough going! Especially since I live with four men (husband and three sons; 12, 15, 18) who are constantly eating. I'm determined though.

It is rough! I started on mine April 5th, and my surgery was April 23rd. I literally had to pray everyday to keep on it. Many times I came close to cheating, but was afraid for my safety in surgery, so I kept on. There were nights, ( I work nights), on my way to work, I was so close to going to McDonalds (and I don't even really care for McDonalds). I had to call a friend, and tell them what I was thinking. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but on that day of surgery, I was sooooooooo glad I had stuck with it. Come here as often as you like for support, and general venting. We're all here for you!

I think the hardest part of the liguid diet is knowing that your done with food. Like it's liquid diet and then surgery and done. I now know how emotionally attached to food I was. I am glad that my doctor put me on a special diet to lose the 30 pounds before the surgery which took me less than two months and actaully worked very well for me. Because I got used to the protein shakes during my breakfast and let go of the food slowely....LOL. I think the biggest mistake I made so far is after I did my Pre Op appointment on Thurday I ate actual food on friday, including....COSTO cake. But I knew if I didn't I would want tit for a long time to come so I gave in. Which I htought I deserved after losing 52 pounds, but know I feel stupid. Becasue it was the last ting I ate and I want more. Oh well, Protein water protein water protein water it's drilled into my head and I can do this!

Sabrenia....do you have to be on a Liquid diet the two months before or can you do any diet that will make you lose 30 pounds? I did a diet that my doctor and I came up with together and it's just what I call....a fat girl diet...LOL. It worked extremely well for me and i dropped 8 pds the first week. And i was able to eat. So if this is an option let me know and I will email it to you!

Hang in there Kittie..... Being determined helps a lot! I am actually suprised with how well i am doing so far this morning, but it's only 11..LOL!

Isopure from GNC comes in a 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of protein in a bottle- I drink half at a time and I water it down- its too sweet for me. They are already made and fruity flavored.

good luck

Thanks for the tip of watering them down, Susan! I tried them and they are too sweet for me.

I really like Max Protein for shakes.

I had a REALLY hard time finding protein shakes I like. I finally discovered I could mix concoctions in the blender and come up with something good. Here are my two favorites.

one cup skim milk
one packet vanilla instant breakfast
one packet orange crystal lite on the go
one scoop vanilla protein powder
a few ice cubes
blend in the blender

one cup skim milk
one packet general foods international vanilla latte on the go
one scoop vanilla protein powder
a few ice cubes
blend in the blender

I've also done a pina colada one that turned out OK, using coconut milk, frozen pineapple, and unflavored protein powder. It wasn't one of my favorites, though.
