Default For once my insurance isn't the problem!!!

From the very beginning I was told that my insurance is requiring 4-6 months of nutrition classes before pre-op. Okay, whatever. I will do what I am suposed to. (I have Blue Cross of CA.)

Yesterday I spoke with the insurance specialist of the surgeon of my choice. She informed me that my insurance is one of the rare ones that does NOT require nutrition classes to be approved for surgery. What???!!! I then call my PCP to ask, why? She tells me that my doctor isn't requiring the classes either. What the.....

The reason that I must take the classes is the "Medical Group" that my doctor belongs to is requiring the classes. Who the h#ll do they think they are???!!! What right do these corporate yahoos have to tell my surgeon, PCP, my insurance and myself what I have to do to be approved for surgery?

Oh well, I guess I have to play their stupid game to get what I want.

On a lighter side... My good friend and I decided to do the surgery at the same time (the beginning of June 2005). She has already done all the pre-op testing & was given a surgery date of July 15, 2005! I am so proud of her and a little jelous too but that's okay. The way I see is I will be able to get all her old clothes so when my time comes I won't have to buy as much!!

Okay enough ranting and rambling. Thanks for listening.

Terrah,

I'm sorry your medical group is being such a pain. I hope your friend hops on the board here too. Good luck!

The medical group is the gatekeeper. They are the ones that approve things.

Sorry for your delay. I know it always seems like something. I wish I had a close friend that had wls before me. I am running through the sizes at an amazing rate. Take care and go to the classes. You never know you may learn some valuable information.

My friend is having her surgery at Alverado Hospital with Dr. Owens. She called me the last night to say she has postponed surgery until 8/12. Her daughter is going to be a flower girl in her brother's wedding on 7/16. So she wanted to be there to see that. I don't blame her.

Terrah,

I also have a good friend going through all the process with me. It's great to have someone to "overtalk" about it with! I know we will both be happy for the other, but it will be hard if one goes first. We don't have the same insurance company, so we have no idea how it will play out. Right now she feels confident that hers is ready for approval........mine wants to wait for my sleep study results in order to have more medical need for the surgery.
