Default How have your tastes changed?

I keep reading about peoples' tastes changing after surgery. I hope I start liking some foods I don't now. I have always wanted to like eggs, cottage cheese, and fish because they are so healthy but I just can't do it. The eggs and cottage cheese has a lot to do with the texture for me. So I was just wondering what some things you didn't like before surgery you do now and vice versa? Also how drastic the tastes changing was/is? And a real added bonus for me would be if someone had the texture issue before and got over it. Thanks in advance for sharing :-)

I hated cottage cheese... Post-op it was recommended and it was difficult just getting the first spoonful in my mouth. UGH! But you know what... I actually don't mind the texture and I look forward to having my cottage cheese. I find myself actually craving it somedays.

I never had a problem with eggs. Post-op so far, I can only eat scrambled eggs, but I have to eat it with sour cream. By themselves I gag. Don't know why. I haven't tried eggs any other way, except a cheese omelet. No sour cream needed there, but I've only had it once post-op.

I was never a big yogurt eater either, now I have one every other day. It's like a dessert to me.

My tastes have changed drastically. I used to love things like cottage cheese, cheese, mayo, spicy food.. And now, the cheese, cottage cheese, and mayo are very rich tasting to me and they are hard to get in. My brain thinks that I like them from the past, but I try to eat the cheese and it's a no go. What I use to think was mild / not spicy at all seems to be very spicy and hot to me, I'm too afraid to try anything hotter than mild, because it's been such a drastic change to my taste buds.

cheers'

I liked cottage cheese prior to surgery, but now it seems to have a funny taste to me if I eat it plain. An idea is you can mix 1/4 or 1/2 cup with your protein shake in a blender ( I mix it with carnation instant breakfast-no sugar added) and you cannot taste the cottage cheese but still get that added protein. The shake comes out real thick and may take a couple of hours to get down just sipping. But I usually have this for breakfast.

I remember reading about Cottage Cheese Pancakes at TT months ago, so I looked up the recipe. Here it is from Beth -- MiladyB (if she posted it, it must be good).

Cottage Cheese-Oatmeal Pancakes

According to Beth: "These are sooooo good with plain yogurt and a squirt of sugar-free syrup. Or peanut butter and syrup, or jam and cool whip.........the possibilites are endless!"

Approx stats: 6 pancakes - 10 pro grams/each - 152 calories/each

I have all the ingredients in the house... I think I'll try the today.

I don't feel mine have changed too much. What has changed for me is the feeling the foods give me. When I was sampling protein shakes pre-op I thought they were a piece of cake...but now I'm having a hard time with them...not because they taste different...but they make me feel reallly really full and bloated..and just uncomfortable...so it has been really hard for me to get them down! I know its differen for everyone, but you'll find things that you can handle!

I love spicy foods now and that was something that I could not handle before.

When did you start noticing the changes in your tastes? Were the changes immediate or did it take some time?

I mentioned in a previous thread that 3 days post op, Crystal Lite Fruit Punch makes me nauseous (it super-sweet smelling...almost like I'm going to drink a cup of fruit flavored pancake syrup)...but since I'm still on clear liquids I don't know about anything else.
