Question fatty liver????

Well i just finished up all my pre testings and my ultrasound showed shadowing around my liver. My PCP said not to worry because alot of overweight people have fatty tissue around their liver, thats all it is. My surgion wants to do a liver biopsy when he is performing my lap surgery. Has anyone had this problem? My doctors say if i lose 8-10 pounds before surgery he will be able to perform the lap surgery if the fatty tissue is to thick where he cant see to do the lap then he might have to perform open. I really dont want open surgery. So here we go diet time. I did lose 7 pounds but i regained the 7 and 2 so i am up 9. I told my doctor we go on vacation alot so everytime i eat i am eatting like its the last supper. He says alot of people do that because they think why not i am having surgery soon. Its aweful but that is how i feel. I now i have to get focused and buckle down. well enough venting but if anyone else has fatty tissue around their liver i would love to hear from them for a little reasurance. Bye for now

Default Fatty liver

Oh yeah, I had a real fatty liver. My doc said it would have been almost impossible to do a LAP because of the sheer size of my liver. In fact when he did the open rny it took about 2 hours, because of the size of my liver. On my last check-up my doc told me my liver has decreased about 40% in size and it is completely normal. Don't sweat it, when you loose weight, yor liver will shrink as well. good luck

I am not sure if I have a lot of fatty tissue on my liver or not, I guess I find out at my pre-op appt on Friday where we review the test results of all my pre-op testing.

Did they tell you that during the ultrasound?
When I had gotten the referral from my PCP for the surgery I actually weighed 239, when I went for the consult with the surgery, I was 242 and here recently I went up to 245. (although I am on preop diet now, probably will go back down)

Good luck, I hope you can have it lap!

In maintenance... now I'm yo-yoing up and down 10 lbs or so. I'm trying to find out how to stay at a set weight, it's rough.

When I was 15 I had an ultrasound for something and the doc told me I had fatty tissue on my liver too, and I wasnt even obese then just plain fat. But mu doctor had no problems with my lap procedure at all, and didnt tell me I had to diet or anything. He took some pictures during the operation of my liver and I could see fat on it but he never brought that up as being a problem..?
I dont know your weight but I was 300 pre op so I guess I would have a fatty liver but wasnt any problem whatsoever. good luck.

I was also diagnosed with Fatty Liver prior to my surgery. They discovered this during my ultrasound for my gallbladder. My PCP said this was normal, don't worry about it until after you have surgery. He gave me a prescription to have it looked at, but I have not fulfilled that.

I did have my surgery lap.

Good luck.

My surgeon puts everyone on a liquid/protein type diet 2 weeks before surgery to shrink the liver. Lap work is done under the liver so the surgeon has to flip it up and the bigger the liver, the more chance for complicaitons. He said it is amazing how much a liver can shrink after 2 weeks of dieting.

I had a fatty liver and had a biopsy during my open RNY. I just went back for my 3 mo check up (down 80 lbs) and my doc said my liver function still isn't normal but he said it should be when i go for my 6 mo check up. If it isn't then he said I would have to see a specialist but he said he is confident that it will go back to functioning normally on its own.
