Default Surgery Date

I have been "lurking" for over three years. Originally the web site was on Yahoo. The first year my surgery was approved, I injured my knee and had to have knee surgery. The the second year Dr. C wanted me to lose some weight before the surgery--he thought the risk was too high. That is when I was the most discouraged--having to lose weight before having surgery to lose weight. What a loser--and not in a good way. My insurance changed, so I had to get everything re-approved. So now my surgery is scheduled for June 7 with Dr. C. He was been so supportive and encouraging through this process. Even though I know this is the best thing for me, I am scared--my age, my weight, and asthma. But I am tired of existing, I want to live. I have a new granddaughter just born last week, and another grandson that I want to physically able to enjoy. I go from being excited to hesitant. I had to quit smoking, which was soooooo difficult. I know, asthma and I smoke. I'm not going to make excuses. Did anyone have asthma? How was the asthma after the surgery? I guess I am asking for support. I went to one meeting in Poway, and plan to attend the East County meeting. The Poway meeting was just too large for me. Oh, by the way, my name is Myra. Thanks for listening.

Myra,
Don't worry about the size, you will get used to it after a few meetings. The EC Group is awesome, next meeting we are having a plastic surgeon coming to talk. and a clothes exchange so you are more than welcome.
Glad everything is finally falling into place for you.
Welcome to the Best Board in the World.

Myra,

Hi, My name is Tricia and yes, I had asthma before surgery....and I still have it. It is MUCH better than before though. My asthma is the result of surgery gone really wrong, inept treatment, etc, so I am not sure if I will actually see the weight loss "cure" it, but my doctor thinks it might. My b/p though went down dramatically after the surgery, back down to low and it is staying there!! Good luck to you and if you want visitors put your date on the calendar!!

Congratulations on your date! I have asthma and I smoke. The surgery did improve the asthma quite a bit. The smoking is another story all together. It has gotten out of hand since surgery. I wish you the best of luck!! Please let us know how you are doing. Congratulations on the new grandbaby. I'm sure she is beautiful!

Thanks for the support. I just got back from my psychiatrist's office. He's adjusting my medication for depression and anxiety. One thing I don't need right now is a major depression. It is something that I have suffered all my life--clinical depression (genetics-my mom's side of the family). When the medication is working right I feel great. A new grandbaby, tenure, and a surgery date--I should be ecstatic. But I'm not. So my doctor knew something wasn't right. (He's great.) I'm looking forwqard to the East County group. Don't get me wrong, the Poway group had many people I would have loved to just talk with, but the opportunity didn't happen. Again thanks.

Default Myra,

Welcome to the forum, we're so glad that you're here!

Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I ever had to give up. I so admire you for doing that. Pat yourself on the back for one chica!

Three years, again, I've got to give you props for sticking with it - even after all the set backs! Good for you!

East County meetings are the best! I can't wait to meet you!

Myra,

I also think the East County meeting rocks. I have only been to one but I plan to keep going. I am still pre-op but it is great support and so motivating to see al of the post-ops in different phases of their weight loss. Poway pre-op meeting was crowded but it was a wealth of information. I do enjoy the more intimate meetings such as the East County one. Hope to see you there!
