Pre-Op Diet
Ok...so I've been reading all these posts that alot of people...well ok most... have to do a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to having their surgery. My doc didn't put me on one. However, I don't want to go in there and find out that they make us "clean out" and be fighting my roomie for the bathroom. Does anyone have any kind of idea of what I could do on my own so that it won't be so bad?

My understanding is that they'll make you "clean out" regardless of what your pre-op diet is. And that it will basically bind you to your bathroom. Ugh.
Well, you do what you gotta do.
My surgeon said I'd be on a "no carb" diet. Meat and green veggies, that's it. Which makes me think my "clean out" time is NOT going to be fun.
Again, we do what we gotta do. The goal is what matters.

Man! I am gonna have to find out for sure what's going to happen. It's not like I'm gonna be able to just "chill out" in there and hang around you know? I'm going to have to be considerate of my roomie. Thanks!

Another thing
Also, I keep seeing people posting suggestions for protein for something called nectar. What exactly is it? does anyone have a link I could go to order some of these things as it's kinda hard to get that kinda stuff overseas. Thanks!! I'll welcome ALL links!

hey there,
welcome btw! and congrats on the surgery date coming up.
I can say that for myself, I was on a 14 day clear liquid diet and did not have to do the full system cleanout since there wasn't anything really to clean. during those 14 days, my system had rid itself of anything.

I didn't have to do a "clean out" either... 2 weeks of protein shakes, bars and water...

Rachel, I was on a 2 week pre-op diet that consisted of an actual bariatric protein supplement. It wasn't all liquids but it was a bariatric product. Basicly though the product was a really low calorie (800 cal), high protein (about 80-100), no carb, really low fat diet.
I didn't have to do a bowel prep before surgery but there are many doctors that do require it. I would say if you started a low fat, low carb, low calorie, high protein diet about 2 weeks before surgery and maybe a total liquid protein supplement for a day before surgery you at least won't pass as much when you do need to do the bowel prep. Still may have to fight for the bathroom but hopefully not as often.

Rachel, this is the bariatric product I used for 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. After surgery I could only have the liquid, jello or pudding.
The stuff isn't bad. Actually some of it is good enough that I still use it.

You do need a practioners code to order. You can use mine. It is LVPMI.
The nectar you can find all over the place on-line. Just do a search for Syntrax Nectar.

I had the liquid diet with one low calorie, low fat meal a day... and no bowel prep required. That said, I kind of wish I had done the bowel prep.. day three and four I had explosive diarrhea and when I had to go I HAD TO GO... getting out of the hospital bed so quickly was NOT fun.
(I swear, I revel more personal stuff on this forum than I ever thought possible- sorry about the TMI.. just telling it like it is)

I am on the final leg of a 2-week liquids only diet to shrink the liver. Nothing but whey protein powder, water, ice, non-fat milk and crystal light. No bowel prep ordered.
