I didn't have to do any kind of pre-op diet at all. My surgeon did mine 'open' so she had plenty of room to move my guts around.

After I had my "last supper", the next morning I had to take milk of magnesia to blow everything out the chute. I was so shocked to see how much crap I had stored in there! But after a few hours I was all done ... it didn't take all day. Oh, and I was restricted to clear liquids for the day. The morning after that I was wheeled into the operating room.

I swear it's no big deal ... nothing to sweat over. It was by far the EASIEST part of the whole weight loss surgery experience!!!

Good luck, and don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh, and one other thing to keep in mind. You have a 99% chance of having your taste buds do a complete turn around after surgery. Whatever protein you like now, you'll probably HATE after surgery. That happened to me BIG TIME, and to many many others around here.

Vitalady.com offers up tons of samples ... that will be great for when you get home from the hospital. THEN you can decide what you want to invest your money in. If you stock up now, you're gonna regret it. Trust me on this.

Does anyone have any kind of idea of what I could do on my own so that it won't be so bad?
Dr Callery didn't have us "clean out" at all and I really liked that idea. He just had us eat light the day before surgery. In the end, it was all good.

"My understanding is that they'll make you "clean out" regardless of what your pre-op diet is."

I didn't have a pre-op diet or bowel prep. The program I went through requires a 10% body weight loss. Once that is achieved surgery is scheduled. About one month before surgery I was told I was doing great and I didn't have to lose any more weight but they wanted me to maintain what I'd lost. That was it. I couldn't eat after midnight the night before surgery, but I ate a big dinner before that. I'd never even heard of bowel preps until I started reading about it here.
