Question Anxious, the process seems so long.

Well I am very new to this forum. I too have started the process to change my life. I have already met with the surgeons office, done all of my pre-op testing and I am just waiting to meet with the surgeon on May 16 to discuss my test results and hopefully submit to the insurance company. I am so excited, but everything seems to be going so slow, or maybe its just because I finally see a light at the end of this dark tunnel I've been in for so long, and I want so badly to run to it. Well before I start asking questions, let me tell everyone a little about myself. I am a single mother of a beautiful 6yr old daughter. I have been overweight my whole life. I remember in high school being called a bowling ball, of course....being as big as I was...I made sure to give the guy a good shiner . I was married to my first love, well.. the first man that would take me and of course he weighed 130lbs soaking wet and stood 5' 11". I had my daughter right after and left my husband shortly there because of his temper.

Well I guess I filled everyone in enough, I have a few questions and I was hoping that someone could help me. My first question is, How long did this process take for others, is it really going slowly for me or am I just to anxious? One more thing, I only have one fear right now, Are my arms and legs going to be really saggy after I lose weight?

From the time I had my first test until surgery was less than two months. As far as the sagging goes, all I can say is get ready!!

I have a post on floppy arms - I was felling like I was the only one with skin, but I was glad to see everyone one else does too, and we can all laugh about it!

I wish you the best of luck and you have came to the right place to have questions answered and get the support you need. Welcome

The timeframe is different for everyone. I started in October 2004 and had surgery on February 22, 2005. I am 10 weeks out down about 59 lbs so far and the skin is starting to sag. I plan to have a TT and if it is the last thing I do I am gonna get these bat wing arms of mine fixed. even if that never happens I have my health back and that is really all that matters. Welcome to you and thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you both for your response, and for the welcome. I don't really have that many people to talk to about what I am about to do. My family is supporting me in my decision to do it but they really don't understand what I'm about to do. Thanks for the warning on the skin, I am going to start to use coco butter lotion now and hope that maybe some of my elasticity comes back and maybe it won't be so bad, I CAN HOPE RIGHT!!!

Kristyann,
Good to have you here. All your questions will be addressed as this forum is so diverse there just has to be someone that can answer, and if not someone will give an opinion
As far as sagging, I am also pro-op and all we can do is hope for the best!

First off, Welcome to the best place on Earth! I started the process in January of 2004 - had my surgery August 9, 2004.

LOL, in good ol' USA, I'm actually in upstate NY, way way upstate. I have to tell you all that I am just so amazed that you all are reading and responding to my post. I now wish instead of just reading these for the last few weeks I was actually writing. Thanks for making me feel like there are people that I can talk to about my concerns and my hopes.

Watergirl,
Thanks for the welcome, from your numbers it likes you are doing quite well since your WLS. I can only hope that I do as well as you have. I first attened a seminar on March 8th and if everything goes OK with my insurance it looks like, hopefully, my surgery will be sometime at the end of July.

You're welcome! And thank you for noticing. You will do just as well, if not better - stick with us kid, we'll see you through it.

I'll be praying that it's as quick as quick can be for you.

Default I could only hope

I am so anxious, 10 more days before my sugical consult. These will be 10 of the longest days in my life, I'm sure. I bet the days before sugery are going to be killers as well. Well I will keep you all posted, and I'm sure I am going to have some more questions. Actually I do have one question right now, about the hair loss, is that a definite, do most people go through some hair loss after surgery?
