Unhappy Help....Im Piling The Weight On!!!

Hi Guys,
Have just weighted myself and to my horror i have gained 13lbs since i decided to go for the WLS(23-05-08)which is only a month ago, i know that i put on weight easily but i have never gained this much weight in such a short time. My surgeon Dr Dillemans does not want me to do a pre-op diet (as my BMI is <50) and i think this is the problem its like he has given me a ticket to eat!! I know its my fault but can seem to stop nibbling....
I still have 4weeks 6days to my surgery day and dont want to put on any more weight infact it would be good to lose a few pounds instead. Any ideas anyone?

I too am feeling the "last supper syndrome" as I prep for the (still undefined) operation date... And yet I KNOW "nothing" is satisfying... it's head hunger, and without the tool to stop me...

I think I am going to have to sit myself down for a talk and do what has "worked" before - even though it only worked temporarily.. that is: weigh, measure, journal and work out.

I keep seeing people whose numbers are mine (or "worse") and how GREAT wls has worked and a BIG part of me (and what isn't big right now ) says "see, it'll be fine." So I think I might have to stop reading too many "sig blocks" for a while also.

I'm with you 100% on this part, kiddo.

Talking Stop!!!

Oh Noonie

Stop fretting because the more you worry about it the more you will become obsessed by it!!!

"The Man" knows what he is doing and I can promise you that he has operated on worse cases than you - you are in such good hands

Calm down and enjoy the last couple of weeks with your old stomach because very soon your life will change forever and especially the first couple of months you will miss the food badly.....

Just take it easy - go for long walks (if possible) and get the heart pumping - it is more important to be fit for the opp than being heavier or lighter - get the blood pumping Girl!!!

Take care

XXX

Default Good Morning Noonie!!!

Today is a new day! Let's get ya headed down the right path today.

I too remember that I put some weight on prior to surgery, and that was all the more that I had to lose. I think subconsciously our minds play games with us.

1st don't think OMG I'm going on a "diet" for the rest of my life and I'll never be able to eat that again so I better eat it now. Not true! There are alot of changes and things you will not be able to eat for the first year or so, but eventually in moderation you will be able to at least have a taste every now and then. Don't think of this as a "diet" but think of it as a lifestyle change. I know everytime I said the word "diet" I would go on an eatting binge. Maybe not true for you or others, but it's just a thought.

2nd Start planning your meals and snacks for the day. Count calories and set times and make yourself stick to it. ie. Breakfast 8:00, Oatmeal, 1/4 cup skim milk, 1 banana etc. Then log it. Say 10:00 snack, 1/2 c/ cottage cheese, or piece of fruit etc. Noon Lunch, lean cuisine etc. Force yourself to not eat except for planned meals and snacks. This will help in a couple of ways, you'll be getting practice in journalizing for after surgery, and you will be holding yourself accountable for what you're eatting, and it will help you keep track of how many calories you're consuming.

If at night you do the t.v. snacking thing, which was my biggest down fall snack time, if you must, choose something health like a piece of fruit instead of icecream or popcorn. Go for a walk, do dishes, vaccumn - anything to keep yourself occupied.

I wish you the best of luck with this pre-op stuff. I know it's hard, but you can do it. Chin up, it'll be here before you know it and you're gonna do great! Just remember were always here to help.

Sharon

Default I'm with you

When I was doing my nut sessions, I lost about 13 pounds - including 4 pounds while I was at Disney World for a week (and that was taking an ECV around the parks)!

Then I fell during a business trip in March and hurt my knee. It took me off my feet and I gained back everything I'd lost. And now I'm struggling.

I don't think it's so much "I'm going to be on a diet for the rest of my life, I need to eat this NOW" with me. It's more "oh why worry, the wls will take care of that for me so why bother dieting now?" I'm trying to get beyond that, and lose at least 10 pounds before my surgery - 10 less to lose after it, plus it will be easier for me to get around in the meantime.

So I'm totally with you on this!

So good to know that i am not the only one who is feeling like this, cause i felt like i was driving myself mad.
The sooner the WLS the better.
Good luck with your loss.

I'm sure that what others said is very true, and you also may be eating due to anxiety about the surgery and life after surgery. Seems logical to me. Food is the first thing I reach for when I'm anxious about anything. Try keeping your mind occupied. Also, those who keep a log of what they consume are more likely to lose weight, so what others suggested is probably going to help at least. If you're eating due to anxiety, then not only write down what you're eating each day, but write down what you're feeling when you're eating each food to make you more aware of what is prompting you to eat in the first place.

Good luck!
