Default Had my final nutrition class & pre-op stuff

OMG, I missed you guys yesterday. I couldn't get on the site all day. I'm guessing everyone had the problem, but I'm not sure.

So, I had my final nutrition/exercise class & pre-op testing on Tuesday. I met Virgo_Grl824 there...which was pretty cool to have someone on TT that is also close in the area. Our surgeries are 2 days apart and we will be in the same hospital, so I'll probably see her coming in as I am headed out. It's really nice to know someone else that is going through this at the same time!!

Anyway, on to the gory details about my pre-op diet. Well, I knew that the pre-op liquid diet was going to be for 1 week prior to surgery. What I didn't know is that we are only allowed 20 grams of protein PER DAY on this diet. OMG, I was in complete shock...that's like one protein shake per day. The rest of the day I can have sf jello, sf popsicles, broth, and well that's about it. I could do sf pudding and count the protein towards my total, but I can't have the dairy because of my gallbladder. I'll probably have some anyway and just live with the pain for a week (maybe it won't be too bad). Oh, and also, I found out that we have to do a bowel prep 1 1/2 days before surgery. We have to drink some kind of nasty stuff and they said you won't want to leave the house during that time because you'll be in the bathroom pretty much all day....Lovely!

Oh well, its all for the greater good, right? Right? RIGHT????

Ok, I'm done complaining..for now anyway. I'll try not to complain again until I actually start this diet on June 30...which is a week from Monday....which is only 3 days away!!!

It will be fine...deep breaths!

Take Care

Hi Judy,

I've sent a friend request (I don't know how that works) but I wanted to keep in touch with you on your progress. I'm having my surgery July 2nd so I'd like to take notes! I have my pre-op meeting this afternoon.

Yep! Independence Day! I'll let you know how my pre op goes today.

I went on a little pre-op shopping trip yesterday. I picked up chapstick, pj's, gasx, chewable vitamins, biotin to help with hair loss, protien drink single packs, and some spray stuff that helps keep your mouth moist when you can't drink in the hospital. I found it at our local whole foods store. I'm ready, I'm packed!

Ok, I've heard about this mouth spray and I would love to know what it is called. I looked at WalMart the other day, but I didn't see anything. I was going to check Walgreens, but I don't know what to ask for. If you can send me the name of it, that would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Judy,

The stuff I got is called Xylitol Spry "Rain" dry mouth spray. They show on their website XlearINC: Quality Xylitol Products - that it's available in Norfolk:
Health Food Center #2
7639 Gramby St.
Norfolk, VA 23505
(757) 489-4242

I don't know how big a city Norfolk is...I did google dry mouth sprays though and it looks like there are other versions available at Walgreens etc. It seems people use them for dental work normally.

My friend told me the hospital gave her swabs as well.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to find it...I think I know where that place is on Granby St. I'm sure I can find something.

My nurse said on Tuesday that my Doctor doesn't allow anything...not even ice chips until after they do the leak test...which is usually the day after surgery!!! So, I am really interested in this spray!

I am stressed about the no ice chips thing! I wonder why "Woogie" as they call him, allows his patients to have them but we can't... Hrump!

I also meant to ask... did you do the white light scan or not? If I can gather enough courage I think I will post mine on the photos forum tonight!

Hey Rachel,

I did the white light scan, but I can't find my results paper....I know I was completely embarrassed by that picture, so I probably hid it somewhere in my house...but now, I can't remember where I hid it!! Oh well....I'm sure they have a record of it somewhere.

As far as the mouth spray goes...I went on the Walgreens website and I found something on there called Oasis spray. I think I am going to go buy it this weekend (if I can find it in the store). It said it also had a minty flavor to help with that bad breath!!

I'm getting really nervous, but really excited. Hope you're doing ok.

BTW, your son is a cutie!
