New with Questions
Hi Guys and Gals,
I am new to the forum and I am currently in dictation with Dr. Potts. I am so excited to start my new life. I have a couple of questions... How long did it take until you were able to get back to work. I have an office job and sit most of the time... I just took four months off the end of last year for maternity leave and I want to get back to work as soon as possible... I am hoping for lap surgery but you never know right? Second, I am worried about the depression afterwards. I had severe post partum depression with my last pregnancy and I am hoping not to fall back into that. Has anyone had similiar problems? Thanks for any info you can offer...

First of all welcome. Trust me when I tell you that you will not find the support that you will get here from anywhere else.
I went back to work 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. All though I should have stayed out a little longer. I was very tired, and didn't work a full 8 hours my first week back. I was lap. I also have a "desk" job, but it's very stressfull. As far as depression I haven't really had to much of it. I am 9 months out. I did go through a stage where I just couldn't get rid of my clothes, because in my head one they still fit (they didn't), and two I thought well when I gain weight back I will need those clothes. It's hard to realize that you're not going to gain the weight back. This is not some new diet that as soon as you stop you gain back what you lost plus some. I hope that this helps a little.
Keep us posted on your progress. I live in El Cajon, so if you want to get togther and talk sometime before you have surgery let me know. You should also try going to the East County support group meeting. It's an awesome place to go. Everyone there is super friendly and very knowledgeable.

Hi!!!
Mommyof3,
You've definitely come to the right place for info. I am a little over 5 weeks post-op and will go back to work on Monday. I was lucky to be able to take the time off. I had an open procedure but felt pretty good after a couple of weeks. Now I'm just trying to get the hang of food again.
I was on antidepressants prior to surgery and felt pretty good. About a week after, I did start to feel down and realized I hadn't been taking my pills. Started on them again ( and reduced the dose), and no problems from then on. So if you're on antidepressants or what not, continue to take them.
Good luck, it'll be time before you know it!
P.S. Ditto on the East County Support Group!! It's wonderful! The next one is May 11th.

Cristy,
Welcome! I took 9 work days off. Yep, 9. I am one of those that if I am not here the place literally falls apart. If I ever quit (and yes, I am looking), they will be in sorry shape. Oh yes, I have a desk job too. Lots of stress, but my first week back I worked 45 hours. Depression? Really haven't had that either. Had a couple of times when I just felt like crying for no reason, but shrugged it off just as quickly as it hit me.

Tricia,
I'm impressed, 9 days, wow! I work for the government and have to be cleared by so many different doctors before I can come back to work it's ridiculous, but necessary I guess.
Mommyof3, I'm not sure that depression is an automatic response to the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the 6th of May with Doctor Potts but as a person who has suffered from depression most of their adult life I can tell you that clinical depression is treatable with medication and it's not something that one has to just wade through. Keep in close touch with your doctors and heed their advice.
Good luck with everything and keep in touch,
Terry

I am having surgery May 11, and will not be back to work until almost July! Dr, orders 6weeks of recovery. Thanks to STD I can afford it and any complications that may arise.

I also have a wonderful, stressful, desk job. I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Thursday part-time. I worked part-time for a week and a half then back in full swing. Just remember to drink while you are working. I also went throgh a bad bout of depression after my last child and was worried about that again. I did (and still do) have moments, but nothing like the uncontrollable post-baby blues. I can't say I haven't sit and shed a few tears, but it has always been somthing I could pull out of.
I have found this forum to be a great help for those depressing days. I have found I am not the only one out there having troubles. I think keep in touch with this site and you have it made!
