Welcome Ladybird!!
I have a surprisingly good yet vague knowledge of the English healthcare system. Why? Because I've read WAY too many Harlequins in my life. My addiction is collecting those really old ones from the 60's. Most of them are set in England. Also, I love the authorBetty Neels. Frequently her main characters were nurses or secretaries who worked with surgeons and in state hospitals. Plus, her characters are so prim and proper, it's just a peek into a different world! I'm so obsessed, it's sad.
I'm pre-op but just had an appt. with the nutritionist, (Fairview Southdale Hospital) and this is what they say about what we should eat after surgery....
Phase 1: 2-3 days after surgery - liquids (broth, tea, juices)
Phase 2: 2-3 weeks after surgery - full liquids (yogurt, milk, carnation instant breakfast, etc.)
Phase 3: 3-6 weeks after surgery - pureed food (adding soft things like oatmeal, and applesauce and mashed potatoes)
Phase 4: 6 weeks and beyond - very small portion of regular food
(1/2 cup cereal, 1/4 cup fruit, 1/4 cup milk....etc.)
Beyond that is totally your decision, but they really recommend you stick pretty close to the ideal of phase 4 to get the optimum effect of the surgery for the future......No coffee, no diet pop, no drinking water 1/2 hr before or 1/2 hour after meals.
Hope that helps!
