Hey Noonie,

I'm not staying at that hotel, I'm staying at the Apollo Arthotel Brugge. Its only about 5 mins from the hospital. Reason for this is that I needed 2 rooms as kids are gonna be there too! They're gonna do some sightseeing with hubbie while I'm having the surgery! Its a 4*, and a better rate than the one I was quoted in the surgery pack. I know I will not get the nurse visit me, but I'm quite capable of changing my own dressings, and any major problems I would go back to the hospital anyway.

Do you mind me asking who you are booked with? I'm with The European Obesity Care (EOC), who have been great.

Well, no doubt you are feeling the same as me...so excited but very nervous already! 3 weeks to go!

Hey Noonie,

I know!..3 weeks..ahhh!!!!

My 2 girls are 10 and 8. Its not ideal to take them, but as we're in germany, we don't have anyone to look after them. They'll be ok, my husband is gonna take them different places while I recover! Be sort of a holiday for them I guess?! Just got to sort my 2 bulldogs out...they're not coming!!

It must be hard for you to leave your 2 babies! But I'm sure they will be fine and you're gonna need your rest after the op.

I dont know about you, but I'm doing this so I can have more of an active life with my kids, and not be embarrassed to go swimming etc. I feel I have missed out on a lot...but no more.

Anyway Noonie, I'm glad we're doing this at the same time, we're almost the same age too! We can see each other through this.

Take care,

Kelly xx

Ah Kelly your girls are a great age to go with you and yes be a nice holiday for them too, lets hope the weather is nice cause its terrible in Ireland at the minute and was checking that Belgium is not much better.......
I guess we will have lots in common those are the reasons i have decided to have this surgery done also and to be honest i am fed up fighting with food its all i seem to do!!
Do you feel like you are eating for Germany since you booked the surgery???
I went through a terrible month of continious grazing and ended up putting on 13lbs grrrrrr.... started slimfast last week and lost 4lbs but i am getting things tough this week and not doing so good.
Ah all i can say is roll on the 30th

Hey~
Awesome about your surgery date! Some advice on the pre-op diet...though its true some docs don't require it I would consider doing it on your own. I am only 242 pounds bmi just above 40 and my doc is recommending it. Those of us that are obese have fat livers. My pre-op nurse told me to go on a pre-op liquid 7-10 days before to shrink the liver and make the procedure safer. My diet will consist of 4 liquid meal replacements (I guess protein drinks) and 2 cups of specific fruits or veggies...I can give you a more specific list if you are interested. My surgery is on the 24th so I have to start my diet this sunday! I'm nervous about how hard it will be without the "tool" but I can do it and if you decide its a good idea, I'm sure you can too! Best of luck to you, sweetie!

Hey Noonie,

The weather is rubbish here in Germany too! It was really hot last week...I almost melted! This week, rainy.

I dont feel I have been eating any more than I normally do...but I do eat a lot anyway...reason why I'm having the surgery But I have not worried about it which is strange as I am normally always thinking about what I should or shouldnt be eating, but eating it anyway..lol!! I'm certainly having all the things I like...pizza one of my favs, and they are cheap in Germany! I'm a veggie so limited to what I can get from their supermarkets, they are a sausage loving nation after all!!! Oh how I miss Tesco.... I am going to miss food, but not miss the constant battle with it, and the guilty feeling after eating too much. I dont eat sweets anyway, so hopefully no dumping. I will miss bread though, but can live without it. Cant wait to not feel hungry all the time, and to be able to buy nice clothes, not just what fits!

I've been watching all the bypass programs on Discovery home and health and have made my husband watch some too! Just so he knows what is going to happen to me, and how I will be changing my eating habits for the better, for life. Been watching loads on youtube too! Plus have just got 2 books on GBS, so trying to read them when I get a few moments to myself.

I havent been told to do a pre op diet or anything, think I will have to ask about that, dont want to put myself at extra risk by having too big a liver!

I was thinking that we will probably meet on the tuesday at the pre op clinic thing! I will look out for you. If its anything like Germany, we will be sent here there and everywhere to have blood tests etc!

Anyway Noonie, will speak soon!

Kelly I really think you should do the pre op diet.. even just for a week or two. It will help your surgeon out as well as making sure that you aren't still physically addicted to fat, carbs, and sugar. Most of the people who have the worst first week after surgery are people who didn't have to do a preop diet, so they haven't detoxed yet. You'll be having a lot of pain the first few days from the surgery, so do yourself a favor now and get detoxed so you won't have to do that later too. Good luck! xoxo

Thanks Josephine for your advice. I think I will have to look up what the pre op diet is.

I dont eat a lot of sugar, but eat a lot of carbs, but have given up carbs before with ease and with no side effects like some get. I will look the diet up and give it a go...just dont want to lose a lot of weight in case I'm turned away from surgery...my BMI is 37...has to be above 35 for me to have the surgery. I've been accepted for surgery because of joint problems and Fibromyalgia. I'm actually in good health..excellent cholesterol, good blood pressure, no heart problems, excellent lung function and no diabetes. My weight is causing my joints more stress and obviously more fatigue. I know there will be some people wondering why I'm having this surgery.... I have yo-yo dieted since my teens and always had a huge appetite...I can lose weight, but always put it back on and more..classic. I'm hoping this surgery will give me the tool to control my appetite, get slimmer and stay slimmer. And of course like most..I want to look better, wear nice clothes and not hear people saying hurtful comments...I'm 5' 10" tall..so stand out enough as it is!! I'm fully aware of the pain after surgery...I've had a lot of surgeries, including 2 emergency c-sections, 1 with very little pain relief due to the spinal block being wrong..but thats a whole new story!! God, that was pain! Hence the result in Fibromyalgia for the past 10 years. Sorry..I have gone on a bit..I'll be quiet now

Going to look up the diet now..

Take care all,

Kelly xxxxx
