Gas
What is all this gas stuff about? I have a friend who told me to ask about the gas and gas pain after surgery. Is this something I need to be preparing myself for? Surgery is Tues. and I really need to know what to expect in the days and weeks following surg.
Thanks
Tracy

Tracy,
Usually your doctor will prescibe something to help with gastric juices in your little pouch, we got Ranitidine. I also had Gas-X on hand, which has really helped sometimes. Gas-X is what everyone here seems to have recommended. Hope that helps.

Gas
If you are lap they fill your belly with air. Well the air has to come out of somewhere, so yeah you will have gas, and yeah it will hurt. I took Gas-X, and it worked great. Make sure you get some before you go home.

Make sure that when you sip your water, you don't use a straw. Straws are evil contraptions invented by Nazi Terrorists! They introduce gas at a much greater rate than sipping from the glass does, and that hurts like nothing else.

Gas
I had the procedure done Lap and had no problems with gas afterwards. It may just depend on the person.

Gas
I'm one year post-op and I still have gas issues. It seems foods that made me gassy before surgery make me more gassy now. I've also developed a gas problem with milk, so I don't drink it. Gas-X has become my lifelong friend!
I asked Kelly about it at my one-year checkup and she said it just depends on the person. Heck, as everyone knows, I've always been a BIG GAS BAG...so it shouldn't be a shock! LOL

I am almost 10 months out and gas is still a major issue with me. I am hoping with the hernia repair it will help. Jeez, sometimes I sound like a badly running tractor....pfttttt.....pffttttt, pffffffttttttttt. My poor family!

Dara and Pam,
I can SOOOO relate to the gas issue. Honestly, it is so bad sometimes that I will "slip" in a store and not even realize it til it came out!!! How freakin' embarrassing!!! My kids are like, "Mommy!!" and I just cannot help it. Does Gas-x really work well?? I haven't used anything for it yet.

Oh the gas
I notice when I eat sugar I get gas!!!!! So when i start tootin' I know I have been doin' too much. I was never like that before surgery.
Right after surgery gas, I was most bothered by that. It was uncomfortable, but not painful... you just have to walk, walk, walk it off. The worse thing about being in the hosputal after surgery is using that damn spirometer! Oh and having vegetable broth for breakfast... ewwwwwwwww

Thanks for all the good advice. Should we all invest in Gas X stock? Will pick some up this weekend at the store. I'm sure my kids will be hootin' with my tootin'. But hey, they can keep up with the best of them. lol.
