I am waiting for my surgery date and trying very hard not to gain more weight, but of course am eating the things I know I will miss the most. So far so good, no weight gain. I'm just afraid when I get the date for surgery I will go nuts with eating. I don't have to do the pre-diet, and that has me a little worried so I am going to at least go the 3 days before surgery doing protein drinks and soft foods. What a roller coaster, I just want to get started. Debs

Marella - The "butt" thing got a lot better when I stopped working at home at the computer. Now I spend 10-20 minutes at a time on the computer compared with hours. One thing I did find really helped was using a small foot stool under my desk to keep my legs elevated a bit. I think I actually did get hemmorhoids from sitting up to 10hours with fairly regular breaks. I think if I had to do it over again, I would get one of those chairs that you kneel on - meant to be very good for your back.

I still love disco myself - by the way - did you see Donna Summer is making a new album? Whoa!

I'm going to keep with the hiking and hope to try yoga after reaching goal.

Good luck to you Deb - I'm waiting for a date too! Looks like we have pretty much the same goal ahead of us. Fear not...but I would ask the doctor again about no pre-op diet. Being a newbie, I don't know nearly as much as others...

Brooke,

I had hemorrhoid surgery eons ago (about 5 years before pregancy) and it was the worst experience of my life. I've had 11 surgeries and that was my very first ever and not fun at all -- although it was the best thing ever at my young middle 20's age then because I've never had a recurrence, no matter how much I've been sitting -- and none during my pregnancy.

Kneeling chair? I'll have to look into that.

Deb & Brooke,

I think it's kind of normal to binge before WLS. I did before my Lapband. We went out every night for two weeks so that I could say goodbye to foods I won't either ever have again, or won't have in a long time.

I didn't do so much binge eating before my RNY. I stuck to my pre-surgery diet... though my doc wanted 5 days, he said the longer the better and I did it for eight days... and that consisted of 6 servings of Carnation Instant Breakfast per day. I did Chocolate 'sugar free'.

AFTER WLS,

I found the first three weeks a bit difficult to cook for my family. Cooking up a steak made me nauseas, and so did making scrambled eggs.

Being at day 38 post-op it's becoming much better. Knowing that the pounds are being lost, I'm becoming sort of fanatical about being on top of my food intake. So, now cooking taboo food or making a salad, or cooking eggs, have no effect on me. The food I cook for them is now healthier than before, and I have no problem watching other people eat. AND I have no desire to eat lasagna, etc., There's nothing I miss, and of course, I don't miss those missing pounds.

I think there's a chemical thing that happens in the brain with WLS. You now have this tool, and once you start losing, it's like a 180 in the brain. You enjoy the loss.

Of course some have more difficulty than others. I don't know what tomorrow will bring for me, and I hope it won't be more difficulty. But if that happens, I'll just have to find a way to overcome it and get over it. That's the psychology aspect of it... you NEED to be ready, come what may.

I wish you all the best, and speedy days to your WLS date. It will be here before you know it -- the first day of the rest of your life.

Meanwhile, don't overdo the binge, just enjoy the food in moderation, but know that what you are doing, many have done and have been successful after.

KNEELING CHAIRS
This website shows the chair - it's called a swedish kneeling chair. I wish I could get Dr. Brown to lop of a few hemmorhoids while he's doing the gastric! But then I guess you couldn't lay on your stomach or your back LOL!

I have dreaded the idea of cooking for my husband after wls. He however seems to be more than happy to do that man grilling thing every evening. Sounds good to me! He needs to lose about 60 pounds and I have heard that once you have wls, your family members tend to benefit pound wise.

Thanks for your words of wisdom.

Default In the same boat!

I'm feeling much like you are. I just got the approval from my insurance company today and am scheduled for Lap RNY on June 19th. I'm scared, excited, all of it too. It has been so long since I have been healthy that I can't remember what it is like and I think that is part of my problem.

Good Luck!

Congrats on your approval! Where are you located? If you're florida local we should dive!

I would love to, but am on the Central Coast of California. The water here is pretty cold and viz isn't as good as it is there. We are only a couple of hours from Monterey where the kelp forests are and I would really like to go there sometime in August when the water is the warmest. Hopefully by them I will have dr. clearance. I love Cozumel and have thought about taking a trip to Florida, and would love to have a buddy. My husband doesn't dive. He says there are things down there that will eat you! LOL...

Keep in touch! I would love to share notes on the surgery too!

I haven't been to any of the great places like The Cayman's or Cozumel, or even the keys! I have been mostly to local places. I want to get at least 1 more dive in before my surgery though! Hopefully I can hit the keys!
