Pgh3rivers, if you ask me, the way they assign these liquid diets doesn't make any sense whatsover. (I didn't have a class on my pre-op day...it was all private...maybe because I did all of the 6 mth pre-op stuff privately as well?) I also still have my gallblader (never had a single problem with it), and my only abdominal surgery is a c-section (bikini cut which Dr. Eid says should be no problem at all). Plus, I really cut back and lost 20 lbs before the liquid pre-op diet even started. So, you'd think my liver would be pretty well shrunk, huh?
A lady who lives near me had GBP at Magee (also with Dr. Eid) last month. Get this....she was 120 lbs
heavier than me, and only had to do the pre-op diet for 7 days (mine is 10), and was allowed to have cream of chicken, mushroom, and celery soups and milk until the last 48 hours. She and I couldn't figure that out...with our weight situations, you would think the diets would have been reversed. Plus, she had her gall bladder out before, with a big OPEN incision.
Here's my theory about the pre-op diet thing...Dr. Eid is a assistant professor at Pitt and I think he is randomly assigning some of his patients different pre-ops diets and using us as "human lab rats" for his research studies. Yes, that's is...I'm a big, fat white lab rat!
All of that being said, the pre-op diet is finally starting to get easier. My dreadful headache has finally went away. Pretty much the only problem now is diarrea. TMI...you probably didn't want to know that, lol.
So, I must freely admit...I'm totally jealous that you just have to do a 48 hour pre-op diet.

Do you have to drink that nasty magnesium citrate stuff too that makes you "go"? At least I don't have to do that part.
Good luck with your surgery Wednesday. Stop by and say hi to me if you're walking the halls. I don't know your first name, so maybe I'll recognize you from your avatar.
