Default How do I do the 2 week liquid diet without milk???

Hi Everyone,

I am still waiting on my insurance approval and surgery date, but it should be any day now. So, I'm looking forward to it just a bit . In the last couple of weeks my gallbladder has flared up pretty badly, and my doctor wants to take out my gallbladder now when we do the surgery. He wants me to stay off all dairy, fatty foods, etc. This is hard enough to do when I am eating regular foods (especially the dairy), so I am getting worried about what to do once I go on the liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery. I tried making a protein shake with water and some fruit...it was nasty but I drank it anyway. Does anyone have any suggestions on non-dairy ways to make the protein drinks?

Thanks, you all are great and I love reading all of your posts!

Check out Syntrax nectar....it's a protein powder made with water and it actually isn't awful. (I can't bring myself to say good...isn't awful is my most glowing review for protein powders.)

Try a soy milk ... Blue Diamond even makes an almond milk thats really very good (unsweetened). Instead of adding yogurt, try adding tofu. I use yogurt in my drink every morning because it does a great job at disguising the grittiness of the protein powder. Of course you'll need fruit and/or flavored syrups to add for taste.
If the tofu idea makes you gag, try adding a scoop of peanut butter instead. Oh wait ... that's high in fat so it may not work for you.

I hope any of this helps ...
Good luck!

I don't have gallbladder problems, but my surgeon doesn't allow milk on my 10 day pre-op liquid diet. So, I essentially have the same problem you do. Someone above already mentioned the Syntrax Nectar protein...the cheapest place to order it is Vitacost.com. Also, try the New Whey protein vials. They have 45 grams of protein in each 3 ounce vial. They are a bit thick, but you can actually drink them like a shooter. Or, get the same flavor of Crystal Light and mix it together with the New Whey vial. They come in orange, grape, and fruit punch I believe.
