5 protein shakes a day is pretty generous. I could definitely handle that. Well, I suppose I'll have to "handle" anything they tell me to do, right? After going through all of these hoops and hurdles to get to this point, I'm not going to let 2 weeks of starvation stop me now! Afterall, the contestants on Survivor do it, PLUS they eat bugs. Ewwww!
Your idea about "practicing" with a shake a day beforehand is a good idea. Actually, I bought some vanilla Body Fortress whey protein at Wally World yesterday evening, and tried it out for breakfast this morning. I was expecting to be grossed out, but surprisingly it wasn't bad at all...just a little too sweet for my tastes. Next time, I'm going to blend it up with a few ice cubes and that should dilute the sweetness and make it more like a real milkshake.

the surgeon that both Momof3 and I have makes us do 14 days of clear liquids.
It states in bold big letters no dairy or protein is allowed. So its SF popsicles, SF jello, broth, water, coffee, tea, diet soda only.
What my mom did since she had the same situation of starting the same day of her classes was she mailed the office assistant and she sent her back the approved pre-op for her. she was able to prepare and start before hand.
I'm currently on day 3 of the all clear liquids and kinda struggling. but i'll make it through knowing how much better life will be later.. Good luck!

Wow, for want of a better word Crie, that is just a "harsh" diet. I don't understand the reasoning behind it, but of course I'm not a doctor. But like you said, life will be much better later, so I'm sure it's worth the struggle now.
That's a good idea about emailing the office assistant (in my case the Nut). I'll definitely do that. Thanks.

My 2 week preop diet consisted of a specific bariatric product. You can find it at Bariatric Diets and Nutrition - SmartForme. The stuff wasn't too bad and I was able to purchase it at a discount from my surgeon's office. Before surgery I had to eat 8 points a day. The liquid stuff was 1 point each and the solids were 2 points each. Other than that I could have sf popsicles, decaff tea/coffee, broth or water. After surgery I was on the same product but could only have the liquid products and I had to eat 4 points a day.
I know its kind of expensive to purchase a product but I really was rather relieved that I didn't have to think very much about what to buy. I had it all. We purchased the entire amount we needed for the 2 weeks preop and the 2 weeks postop all at the same time. It just took a lot of the stress of eating off of me.
