Default Day One..pre-op liquid diet

Well, I've already learned a couple things.

1. do your pre-op shopping BEFORE you start the diet. You'll wake up FAMISHED the day you actually start and you cant think clearly if you wait till that morning to go to the grocery store for your "lunch"....that is if you FORGOT your jello at home...

2. Not all stores will have stuff you can get, as in Wal-mart and such. Again, shop EARLY. At least prepare for the first 3 or 4 days. Till you get past the initial hurdle...

*sigh*

I rarely eat breakfast and can go all morning till lunch before I need to eat. But I should have known I'd be hungry today.

I can do this

I can do this

I can do this

I can do this

My daughter is WORTH it...

Anyone else in the first stages of their liquid diet? I have 14 days to complete..

SHRINK LIVER, SHRINK.

speaking of...I bet its the size of a walnut by now...

not really..but MAN..

hey you! i was thinking about you this morning wondering if your health problems have been cleared to continue surgery for the 15th with me!

Of course.. i'm now also on day one of the liquid diet hell.

I'd done some of the shopping before hand, which helped. I also woke this morning to my stomach growling. Oh Great.. its going to be a long day.

So here I am, drinking my 33.8oz berry propel this morning. Already had 2 SF jello cups (bleh) and just made a 16oz coffee mug full of chicken broth. Its salty and its not a favorite. Need to do some experimenting with it i think. But at least the grumbly stomach has stopped and I just keep sipping on my broth. Its nearly lunch time.

My mom sent me an email this morning for support and I loved it. "The first day of the rest of your life and you can do it! I’m so proud of you and you were right. It was worth it." *sigh* she's so good to me

My officemates had a big old party for me yesterday. My 30th birthday will be 3 days post-op.. so they brought in all kinds of goodies to celebrate on my last food day. Needless to say.. I think I ate WAY too much crap yesterday and regretted it all last night.

And today I'm famished.

I'm going to warm up my beef broth

YUM-O

it's not on our approved clear liquids for now.. i know that you can after surgery now.

If you have a sweet tooth go for some SF popsicles

hello!

I am one week post-op (read: close enough to clear liquids to still sympathize )

a couple of things really helped save me during the all liquid transition - and there does come a point you get a rhythm to it all and it's not so bad

1. drink all the broth you want, and then drink some more. (chicken is BEST by far)
2. Don't hesitate to ask a deli or soup place to give you the chicken/whatever soup of the day minus chicken noodles, etc "Just the broth please" I wouldn't do this now b/c of fear of dumping but in pre-op broth is broth is broth (I asked my nurse abt this too by the way lol)
3. sf popsicles really are a huge help when you just want something, anything to CHEW on... they are wonderful.
4. slow down your pace and rest a lot. I would end up coming home and going to bed early during that phase.. less fuel meant I was more tired.. and I did enjoy getting some extra sleep

other random things that helped me included

getting cool flavors of lip gloss and putting them on obsessively (no, not licking them off LOL, just the "oral stimulation" felt nice)

doing nice, touch-oriented things for myself like putting on lotion, painting my nails, extra time with makeup and hair, taking baths (which you won't get to do afterwards for awhile so stock up on the joy )

BOOKS! I read a lot to keep my mind busy - video games, etc works well for this too

Good advice, Jacki!

And Mom... can you have protein shakes? Is that allowed? If so, good ones will curb your appetite... your local supplement store can help.

Best of luck to you! Two weeks... ugh!

I dont think so...

sugar free, low to zero calorie.

I'm so about the lip gloss and all that stuff, I'm a girly girl for sure. My kid counted my lipglosses the other day that I had in my purse, I think it was 8 or something stupid.

I have all my girly stuff to keep me occuppied...

that is, if I get a chance. I have 3 kids, a DH and a dog.

LOL

2 weeks will FLY....

I think I can
I think I can
I think I can

i KNOW I can

i know that coffee or tea is on our ok list for these 2 weeks. Just no creamer or sugar (splenda or sweetner is ok).

I would LOVE to have a sugarfree vanilla coffee from mcd's.. but probably still loaded with calories.

Today total i've had 4 jello cups, 2 cups of chicken broth and 40 oz water so far. I'm exhausted and would kill someone for a bite of my bday cake still sitting here from yesterday lol
