Default It's not that bad...

I started my Optifamine diet today and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. The shakes could gag a maggot, but the bars and soups are actually pretty good. Who would'a thought?!

Any suggestions for making the shakes more palatable? I thought about blending them with some ice and vanilla extract.

I use all sorts of flavor/baking extracts to jazz up my nightly protein drink. I make mine heated since my pouch likes warm liquids better than cold. I've used coconut extract, vanilla, peppermint, banana, and my favorite is almond. One of my friends on here suggested getting orange, but I haven't found it yet. I also have pineapple, but haven't tried that yet. Are you allowed to add other stuff to the shake? Or just stuff with no calories?

Thanks for the ideas. I had no idea there were so many types of extracts. The nurtitionist said I could add extracts and that I could have liquids with no calories. So I guess adding a banana is out of the question. I'll have to experiment with extracts. Oh, and I tried adding splenda and it made a world of difference. I'm definitely a splenda fan.

Yes, I adore Splenda!! Starbucks was actually out of Splenda today so I had to resort to putting Sweet-n-Low in my latte -- blegh!

And building on the idea of using extracts, another zero-calorie flavoring you might try, if you have a favorite flavor, is Torani sugar-free syrup. That's the kind of flavor syrup they use in Starbucks and other coffee houses. I have both Raspberry and Vanilla, sugar free of course! I also found that they do sell smaller bottles than those you typically see in a Starbucks, so that's the size I bought.

And oh, I almost forgot, regarding the many types of extracts, I first looked for ideas in the grocery store, of course, then I did an internet search and found about a kajillion types. I actually ordered a bunch from Amazon.
