Question Question RE: pre op liquid diet

My doctor has asked me to start full liquids on Friday April 18th and clear liquids either Sat or Sun.

If I get onto clear liquids Sat & Sunday, can I drink something like IsoPure these days to count as a clear liquid? The flavor I bought today is red and you can see through it. is this considered a "clear" liquid?

My surgery is Monday April 21.

Thanks!

I had a pretty liberal 2 week liquid diet ( I could eat all the non starchy veggies I wanted) but the one thing I was told not to drink was any type of red liquids. I would call your Dr's office next week and ask them.

Default liquids

AmityA: My surgery is also on the 21st of April. I started my liquids last Monday. (2 weeks of liquids) When this is done I don't think I'll ever eat jello again. I was wondering the same thing about the "colored" liquids. I bought tomato soup and wasn't sure if I could have it so I passed. Sitting here now drinking vegetable broth.

I am getting my surgery on teh 22 and I have started my liquids as well. The dr and nutrionist(sp) told me that if you can hold it up to the light and see through it then its "clear".

I wonder about the color red now. Why is that anybody know?

I think its because of the red dye thats in it..and something about the intestines...But my hubby had to do a colon thing....that man have to do....You guys are lucky I can have soup after the surgery...All I can do is clear liq....My surgery in on the 25th...Okay I can eat a control bar twice a day...stop the press on that one But thats okay.....All this will be worth at the end....Oh and two days before surgery I have to clean out the system with that Mag. Citrate stuff...That will be fun traveling that day...My surgery is 5 hours away....LOL

Default Whaaa?

Is this the norm?! Because I called my Dr. office and they said Dr. Chang only requires Liquids the day before surgery. I know many Dr's have differ rules but this one seems Vastly differ. 2 weeks liquids to the day before. I also asked if I had to drink the nasty BM stuff and they said no. I was suprised
Hmmmm

Nana - as I stated in another thread a moment ago, docs have different protocols for the pre-surgery preparation.

I wasn't required to do a liquid diet, nor did I have a bowel prep. Just nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before.

Look on it that we were one of the lucky ones.

perhaps your own situation dictates what you have to do...

my dr said I'd have to do a full 14 days liquid diet but he doesnt always require it be that long...the purpose he said is to shrink your liver so its not a complication during the procedure...I'm having bypass, not lap band...so maybe it's a combination of things and depends on your own personal issues.

I've been doing weekend "liquid diets" so I can prepare for the 2 weeks...just so I know what to expect and address any unforseen issues..like caffeine withdrawals and hunger headches...

I havent decided what I'm going to do without Diet Dr pepper...

I cant stand diet sprite

my sister is a nut and she told me a loooong time ago (before this rny thing ever came up) that red food dye affects the liver (causing it to swell?) she said that to the idea that when you're trying to get in enough fluids you can pretty much drink any sf noncarbonated drinks except red ones.

got a call into the nurse about the beef and veggie broth question
