Welcome, calicowgirl! This journey definitely has its intimidating or overwhelming moments, but most people get through it all just fine, and there are lots of them here to share their experiences with you. This is a GREAT forum, with wonderful people from around the world at all stages of the WLS journey, and postings on a variety of topics - it's especially helpful to try out the Search feature to look for specific topics (like "TriCare insurance" or "Profect" or "psych eval") that you may want to know about...
A few observations based on my own experience: First, don't worry about your nervousness. The WLS doctors are used to seeing patients who are nervous and apprehensive - highly unlikely they will think you are "crazy" because of it and decline you as a patient. You will likely be required to undergo a psychological evaluation as part of the insurance approval process, but most of us have done it and I seriously haven't heard of anyone not being considered an appropriate candidate for WLS based on their psych eval results...
Second, read your insurance benefits booklet carefully to find out whether your insurance will cover WLS and what it will require - many policies require a medically supervised weight loss program for a certain length of time (like six months) or specific co-morbidities or a BMI above a certain number. As far as how long it takes, everyone's experience is different and it varies by insurance company. There is a great section on the forum that deals with Insurance issues...
Glad you are here with us and wishing you much success on your new WLS journey!
