Default Shaking in my boots, date set

Hey there everyone,

I haven't really posted a lot as I was not sure for some time if I was going to go through with everything. It didn't take long (about a month and a half) for everything to get approved so it's been emotional due to the fast nature of everything. Got my preop bloodwork and tests done today and my date is set for March 11th. I know this is the best thing for me but I'm really quite scared. Not of the surgery itself because I'm a nurse and the surgery will be done at the hospital I work at. We have what seems to me to be a really great Bariatric program here and I trust that I will have a great team to look after me. I'm more scared of adjusting to things and I know it will be hard, especially the first couple weeks.

Just looking for some emotional support. My hardest hurdles will be adjusting to not drinking with eating, giving up my beloved Sprite Zero, and the focus of my life not being eating like going out to a nice dinner (I know you can eat out later with adjustments of course). It also doesn't help that my parents are not thrilled that I'm doing it because they think I could do it on my own. (Which 7 years of struggling with weight loss and gain has proved to me otherwise). My husband is very supportive though and that's what matters.

Anyhow, please keep me in your thoughts. I will of course update after the fact. I am really looking forward to my new, healthier life but also quite scared of the change in habits.

We could be twins! Those were my exact same 2 concerns. I still can't stop drinking completely during my meal. It is the only time I get really thirsty. It is really going to be hard to train myself not to do this (I am 3 weeks post op). The beloved Sprite Zero...this is all I ever drank! I would gulp 2 with dinner, and it was the one thing that really quenched my thirst. I have yet to find a Crystal light flavor that I love.

With that said, it is completely worth adjusting your lifestyle. Good luck to you. We can dream about our Sprite Zero together!

Deb

The first couple of weeks post-op were not all that bad for me... I recuperated at home alone, as my DH was in the hospital at the time... I didn't have to fix meals for anyone other than myself, slept a lot and kept a low-profile. I was driving at 5 days out, and even running the snowblower!

I'm finding week 3 & 4 a little more challenging as I'm trying to add food (Protein) and actually getting to know my pouch. But it's not incapacitating...

Besides - you've got us... What more could a post-op RNY'er need!

Congrats on the date... you'll be here on the Loser's Bench before you know it!

Hello Ladies,
Wow, let's make that triplets!!!!! I can't believe I am not alone in gulping 2-3 Sprite Zero's with a meal.....and drinking 8 cans a day!!!
I have been on my liquid diet for a week and a half, surgery 3/3 and I am shocked I haven't been totally lost with out the soda.......I guess not having food is taking priority...lol...
Have you tried the Crystal light Cherry Pomagranite (? SP.) I like it a lot.....
I also like the Propel water, hope it helps.....
I don't know how I will feel post op without the Sodas, for me having a soda in my hand is like an Alcoholic having a beer.....( runs in the family) I only pray it will continue to not be so bad

Best of Luck Ladies, and Let's all hang in there together!!!!

I don't know why you couldn't have a Spritezero occassionally, after it has sat out open for 2 days and gone flat. But you may find that the taste for those just goes away. I was always a big drinker at meal time. 4 glasses of Ice tea, etc. That went away pretty easily, when I found out the discomfort it causes when I forget to do it.

But really ladies, your long term health is so much more important than a soda pop at meal time. You are gonna do fine! Good luck and congratulations on your new birthday!

Aww thanks so much for all your feedback! I feel better that my "addiction" is shared by others who had to give it up as well. I know things are for the best but I'm just so glad we can all be here to help each other deal. I'll be sure to share more as my real journey gets started in a couple weeks.

Congrats on your date. I am going one day before you and my process has went incredribly fast as well. I has taken me a few days to calm down and I am no longer shaking in my boots. I completely agree that eating without drinking is going to be incredibly hard! It will take adjustment but we can do it! With all of the support from the Thinner times amazing people!

Lori39...I just wanted to thank you for your drink suggestion. I ran right out and bought the cherry pomegranete and just loved it. Should help my drinking problem!
