Authorization dates?? - ThinnerTimes

I'm really hoping that at some point with this process, I'll be permitted to breathe a little bit and not have new questions based on every new thing!

I have my approval; it came in the mail yesterday. We are still waiting for my hubby's approval because it was denied the first time because they consider the gastric sleeve experimental, so his has been resubmitted for just RNY, which I assume they have to approve as they approved me.

We had always planned for the hubby to go first and we both still have our pre-op testing to go through, whatever that entails (I already had my chest xray and we are waiting on the paperwork from the surgeon on what else they require for surgery clearance). So, to get to my question...my approval letter states my authorization is good from 2/15/08 to 4/19/08. If hubby goes first, he may have to has his open depending (he's a big guy) so I would not have mine until he was well into his recovery. Can the surgeon's office request that my approval date be extended if need be?

Hi Kimbre,
If there is a phone number on the authorization you received in the mail, I would call it. Go ahead and get all the testing done, I believe those are usually good for 6 months...or perhaps your surgeon's office would have some answers. Either way, you're gonna be a loser before you know it, congratulations!

I think a call to your insurance to see how long the approval is good for is the thing to do, just to know the rules, and move on from there, using the time to get all your pre-op testing done. I had to wait four months from my approval for a surgery slot to open.

I had five different letters with different dates on them... so I'm sure you can get your date adjusted without a problem...
