Talking 10 pounds gone!!!

My surgeon says I have to lose at least 10% of my weight before my surgery. I've been on my own version of the pre-op diet for the last couple of weeks (slim-fast for breakfast and lunch, small dinner). The first week was the hardest, but I'm not so screamingly hungry now. I am actually able to see food and not eat it. I have willpower!!! (Who would've thought?!?!) But in just the last couple of weeks, I've already lost 10 pounds!!! If these first 10 were this easy, I'm not too worried about the other 20.

I'm just so excited because I've pretty much never been successful at this whole losing weight and keeping it off thing. But I've finally started to understand how my mind plays into this cycle, and I'm starting to beat it!

Wow, great job! That is gonna make your post-op life so much easier. The mental aspect is such a big part of this journey.

Congratulations on getting your head around the mental side of successfully losing weight. Any skills you can acquire now will be invaluable to you after surgery.

For what it's worth, I've probably been on a diet every year for most of my adult life. And I was pretty successful at it. Problem was, I was either on a diet or I was eating like a piglet. I was never able to master the art of just eating sensibly so any weight I did lose came back and dragged a few more friends along.

I was required to lose between 10 and 15lb prior to surgery. Don't know why but I found that the easiest diet ever and ended up losing 35lb in 12 weeks.

Not only did that make things easier for the surgeon, but he was able to my RNY and an umbilical hernia repair at the same time laparoscopically.

Keep up the good work.
