Default AM I Dozy or what??

Well.call me stupid or whatever, but I have only just realised that the stomach is actually CUT OFF during the Gastric Bypass operation. I have read umpteen reports of the procedure and they always seem to refer to the pouch being "formed" or the stomach being "divided off" and I thought that it was simply STAPLED off.Not so.It is CUT OFF.Left there to keep producing its gastric juices or whatever but definitly cut off.
Am I making a big deal of this? Am I reading to much stuff on the whole issue?I don't know but that realisation really shook me up and sent me into another spin.I know that I am not going to back out of this but its so.......radical.
My husband is so patient with all these wobblies that I get every now and then-usually sits down with a sheet of paper and draws his explanation(TG I brought him to the consultation and that someone was listening while I was admiring the surgeons hands)
Did anyone else labour under the same misconception or are you all much smarter than me and had it all sussed?

Exclamation Read this one...

...... and remember different surgeons have different procedures - you have to ask your surgeon which version of the RNY he will be doing - mine was a Capella RNY:

RNY and Removal of Stomach - posted and brought to our attention by Corrine

Default thanks!

Thanks Gwen-that was a quick reply!!very good thread too. I have checked with Dr and he does cut and leave the large part of the stomach there. Its just that (wimp that i am) I would prefer that they just STAPLE it and not cut it off.Ridiculous how these small details throw mex

Rearranging your "innards" is a big deal! But for me it was they only way I could lose the weight and keep it off.

So it was a good trade on my part...

They used to do the procedure just w/ stapling but sometimes the staple line would fail and the stomach would partially reconnect and people would have weight gain, This way is much better. And like you said, it is still connected to your intestines at the other end, keeping it alive and well, we just don't use that part. I hope that helps a little. You will do great! My DH will be scheduled soon too.
