Default 3 days post-op

First, I wanted to thank Lyndasroom for adding me to the Februrary surgery list. I do read the threads religiously every day, but I have only posted once. You guys seem to have such a close knit support group, and I was a self-pay and couldn't relate to all of the hoops most of you had to jump through to get this surgery done.

My surgery was Tues. 12/12, and I was back home yesterday. The doctor said it went perfectly, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting this much pain. I have had no problem with the liquid diet at all, but getting up and down has been tough. When they took the drain out of the biggest hole, it was truly one of the worst pains I have ever felt! To make matters worse, I was getting up and walking around yesterday and decided to go out on my back deck. I stepped off the edge and completely rolled my ankle and heard an awful pop. I am hoping it is just a bad sprain, but I can barely walk at all right know. I can't believe I did this. I will probably go get an x-ray to make sure there is not a fracture. Just what I need!

Thanks to all of you for the great suggestions you give in all your posts. I look forward to reading every day.

Deb

Go have that ankle checked out. The pain will get better. Just take it day by day. I would say remember to walk but with a sore ankle prop it up and rest.

Sorry...I had surgery 2/12, not 12/12! It has only been 3 days, not 2 months!

Owch!! Get that ankle checked out. The first couple of weeks post-op is the worst. It gets better and better.

Deb,

I posted about this phenomenon...where they must have messed with my brain cells because I can't remember the obvious!

We are all related here Deb. How we went about it doesn't matter, what we do after the surgery does. This is by far the best support group around, even better than some in-person groups I've attended where people seem afraid to talk to each other or share their concerns or pain. I think all the people who wish they had someone to talk to, or wanted to share this journey came here. So please, jump in and join us. We not only learn by listening, but we learn by teaching. Your experiences may help someone else through this. What better reward?

Thanks so much for asking, Tooney! It is somewhat better, but has really put a damper on my exercise program I was so gung-ho to start. There is really nothing I can do except wrap it and wait for it to heal.

How is your pureed stage going? I get to start in the next couple of days, and I'm finding I am the most apprehensive about meal-planning. I am going back to work next week, so I guess I will really need to plan everything ahead of time.

I just noticed today that I posted this in the pre-op forum. Musta been a little groggy that day! Sorry.

Thanks for all the kind responses.

Deb,

Doesn't matter how anyone arrived here. I wasn't self pay but I didn't have a fight either. I walked in to talk to the surgeon about an umbilical repair and it was pretty much him suggesting I have a "blue plate special" and he do a gastric bypass as the same time. I did the courses and that was it.

We're all in this together.

Sorry to hear about your ankle - that must be painful. Just don't overdo it OK?
