Last night was just aweful!
I have been on the cpap machine now for almost 8 months. I have had Sleep Apnea for many years, even as a child I can remember fighting to wake up cause I couldn't breath, my heart pounding out of my chest, becoming over whelmed with fear cause in my sleep I know I am gasping but can't stop it. Well since I have had the cpap I have experienced this several times, and yes I am using it and it isn't leaking air anywhere...... BUT last night was just awefull!!!! I can remember being stuck in that sleep and not breathing, and in my dream I was trying so desperatly to get air, I woke up coughing and choking and gasping, it was bad.... it hasn't been this bad for sometime now! That was at 3am and my chest is still tight, my throat hurts from coughing so hard. Just think I was so sure everything was ok, but why am I still having these problems even though I use my machine EVERY NIGHT? I know I have been having alot of sinus pressure with my allergies and all, but that don't explain my issue. I guess I should call my pcp and see what they suggest.... For those of you who do suffer from sleep apnea, you know the fear that comes over you when you can't wake up out of that state of sleep and you know how real it is when you are gasping and coughing...... This is just one more reason for me to get my surgery done and over with.

You may want to consult your doctor, you may need to be retitrated.

Cpap
Oh don't you love that ole CPAP Machine? Well I know that I had problems with it working to it's full capacity when I had sinus stuff going on. Do you have the humidifier? Anyway if you don't let me know I have a brand new one still in the packing box that I never opened.. of course I think Stuart is going to go back on it for a while to see if that helps him out any. I've noticed he still has the apnea symptoms..
Like Rob said it may need to be retitrated.. your symptoms could be getting worse.. call the Doc..

I would recommend calling your doctor. Please let us know what he/she says.

SueZQ,
I would definitely call the doctor, but I thought we shouldn't use the machine if we're having sinus problems? Maybe that was just for colds and such. I know, since a few weeks before my surgery, I just can't tolerate it. I really try, but I find myself gasping for air. I think it's set too high (14). I just called my pcp a couple of days ago about it, but haven't heard back yet. In the hospital, I was on oxygen only, not the c-pap. It was so nice cuz you can barely tell you're even wearing it.
Well, good luck and hopefully we'll both be able to get rid of that thing soon!!!!

Another thing, you may not be handling the CPAP well, you may want to talk to your doctor about moving to a BiPAP instead.
I couldn't handle the CPAP, the pressure got to me. The BiPAP uses two pressures, the harder pressure when you breathe in, and a lower pressure when you breathe out. It is very comfortable.
