Red face Any Helpful Hints?

My surgery is April 4th I will be having gastric bypass but not the open procedure. Any helpful hints at this point?Things I need to be sure and take with me or have at home for post-op? Since it is not the open procedure how long is recovery? Is there anyone out there from my area? I've really enjoyed this site.

Thumbs up Welcome

Chrissy,

I would suggest definitely to bring some chap stick. You will be very dry and feel dehydrated for a few days post-op. It really helps to have the chapstick with you. (or any type of lip therapy that you prefer of course.. I used carmex)

Also if you sleep better on your own pillow feel free to bring it.. I brought mine and was very glad I did.

Good luck to you and congrats on your date.. wishing you a safe and speedy recovery.

Smile To take or not to take

What I wore into the hospital, I wore home. Take lip stuff, DEFINITELY. I had a lap procedure and was back at work after a week, but Im a maniac. Everyone is different, I just wanted to get back on my feet and not have it be "such a big deal." Just put yourself first and take all the time you can afford and rest! I wish I had, take care sugar pea! Big hugs and best wishes! Cant wait to see you on the other side, make sure you let us know when your home!

Do not bring anything that you would really mind losing, (you will be in 3 to 4 different rooms in the hospital, and things could accidently walk off) and do not wear ANY rings on you fingers. It is possible that your rings will have to be cut off due to the temporary swelling from gettting knocked out. Good Luck!

The hospital usually supplies soap and shampoo, but I brought my own and it was really nice to smell my own shampoo and soap. A little piece of home. I would bring a pillow too. The ride home can be uncomfortable - use the pillow to hold your stomach. A comfortable outfit to wear there and home in. Mine was the same outfit. Chapstick a must have.

My surgery was lap. I was back at work in 3 weeks. I think I should have been out for at least one more week. It was hard and I was very tired at the end of the day.

Take good care of yourself. You'll need to remind yourself that you just had major surgery. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for a safe and speedy recovery.
