Talking Six Down... Eight To Go!

Oh, interesting FOOD day!

I stopped by to see my 89 y.o. dad before going to the hospital... He still lives at home, and is quite proud of his talents in the kitchen. Today he brought out a big soup pot (8 qt?) filled with his latest. I don't think it has a name, but I'll call it "Ewww!"

It's a "Salad" --- consisting of carrots, onion, celery, grapes, black olives, mushrooms, cauliflower and who knows what else... it's all stirred together in a "wishbone italian" type dressing... "Take a bite!" he said. Dad does not know I'm having surgery... I told him I couldn't - that I was doing a fast for the doctor... Then my dad, BLESS HIS HEART said, "can't you just chew it to get the taste and then spit it out"

LOL! No dad --- really, I can't. I brought home a pickle jar full of it --- and it'll go right down the disposal... It's easier than breaking his heart. LOL! I did tell him another concoction (saurkraut, sausage, dill pickle all ground together) was disgusting! He just said it's his favorite and he eats a little bit each day...

SHAKES:
I picked up some strawberry and mint extracts to mix into them... the strawberry is pretty good! The mint is a bit overpowering... and I only used a tiny bit! Trial and error... but I'm still 100% compliant!

And the best news for last...

I found a scale at the hospital and got my weight today... I've lost SEVEN pounds in the past 6 days!!! WhooHooO!

I'm lol about your dad's "Ewww Salad". It sounds like he threw in everything but the kitchen sink.

Actually the second concoction (sausage, saurkraut, and dill pickles) actually sounds kind of interesting. Gosh, that's like the kind of weird food I craved when I was pregnant, lol.

Claire and others... thanks for asking.

My hubby is still in the hospital. Yesterday an orthopedic doctor came in to look at his foot. He said, "Your foot is really messed up!" No kidding...

For those of you who don't know his story - he had a fusion in his foot 2.5 yrs ago, and the bones never healed... his foot is deformed and very painful. The ortho took a big needle and "sucked out" a bunch of fluid from his foot... sort of like tapping "water on the knee" --- they'll test some of the fluid to see if there is infection... since he's been on IV antibiotics for 5 days, I doubt they'll get a good idea about that....

The Infectious Disease docs are scratching their heads trying to figure out the "port of entry" and suspect it's an infection around the pins in his foot - worried it'll get in his bones. This has been a recurring problem... I think this is the 3rd or 4th time he's been hospitalized for this problem...

Lots of doctors working hard to make him better and to save his poor foot!!!

I'm just looking at the calendar and PRAYING that his illness won't affect MY surgery...

Default Day Seven - SEVEN to go!

I'm HALF WAY THERE!!!!

YAY!!!

I got a phone call today that sent me over the edge... the scheduler didn't have the paper work in hand from ins. with the correct date of my surgery listed, so I'd been "bumped" off the surgical schedule. My first thought was "I'VE DONE THIS STUPID DIET FOR SEVEN DAYS FOR NOTHING???"

Then a dozen other things spun into focus - each flipping me out more and more. It got straightened out eventually - I've kept my date, and did not go off the deep end with SUBWAY or worse...

So I'm still Magic Bulletizing my shakes... and enjoying the 2 protein bars each day (did I say ENJOY?)... still focused on FAT TUESDAY...

This was HUMP DAY in my diet... I'm getting there...
