Default What kinda BS is this!

I went to the seminar to get my bypass going, got a call from the doctor saying i was a candidate for surgery, BUT my insurance( UPMC, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center ) wont cover it unless i go on a 6 month diet AND pay 400$ for a "Comprehensive Lifestyle Program" to prepare me for life before and after surgery with dieting, exercising, Pre and Post Op Lifestyle Changes.. I barley make enough money to pay my bills and they expect me to pay 400$ to even think about getting a bypass done. And if i dont go on the diet and go to all 6( 1 per month for 6 months) Lifestyle meetings AND pay 400$ or i cant get it done...

What can i do....

What can you do? Go on the diet and pay your $400.. and thank your lucky stars that your insurance will cover it after that!

good luck!

Yep, 6 month supervised diet is pretty standard these days... as for the $400....I would rather pay that then the $50,000 the self payers have had to pay.

I had to pay more than $600, plus gym membership which was another $400, for my six month program and that doesn't count towards my deductible. I'm just happy I got approved. I kind of understand your fustration I wasn't sure how I was going to do it since I had to pay for school too, but I managed. I had to put some stuff on credit cards but I figured i'm worth it. If you really want it, don't give up, you will find a way.

the six month diet is just one of the hoops you will have to jump through. sorry, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As for, the $400. Collect cans, ask for help, do what you must...it will be worth it. I know there hast to be a reason that we go through this (and soon i'll find out)

If you don't have the money now maybe you can make some type of payment arrangements. I would at least talk to them and explain your situation they might have some suggestions.

Cant give up over $400. If you dont have it beg, borrow, plead, or Rob a bank (did I say that out loud?) Lets be happy that they even cover it right?

Coming from a self pay GBS patient.....I would say PAY THE $400 and be happy you have medial insurance and the bonus is it will pay for the surgery. I didn't have the money and my mom saved my life with the $30,000 needed to have this surgery. I would not wish that on ANYONE!
