Unhappy Now I'm feeling anxious

Hi all, I have been quiet for the last few weeks ... waiting and waiting for the date to get nearer and nearer.

Tomorrow morning (Sunday 25th Nov) I start my pre-op diet, 3 pints of milk and 2 yogurts a day

I am really beginning to feel the reality of the whole thing now. I am scared, anxious, happy and worried all at the same time.

I am sure this is natural and everyone has gone through it.

I know I am making the right choice and I am so ready for this new life, I am proud of myself for being so brave and I have never been proud of myself ... ever!!

Karol

Hi Karol,

It looks like we will be surgery mates or "pod" mates as I have seen mentioned here as we have the same date. My surgeon doesn't require the liquid diet pre-op so I am enjoying my time and meeting up with friends and having a few drinks to celebrate the holidays early as I am not too sure how fast I will recover for being sociable.

I meet with the surgery team on Monday at 8:30am as they like to get to know the patient before seeing them the first time in the operating room. I thought this was a great idea and look forward to it so I can ask questions to the whole team.

I am sure the time will just whiz by.

Good luck on the 5th!!!!

Hej Karol Lorak!
I too share your pod with Margaret!
United we stand / I'm in London!
Like Margaret though, I have no pre-meds or other restraints, and like Margaret too, I am preparing as much as I can pre-op.
I am finishing my Christmas cards (for posting just before I leave for Belgium), batch cooking for the family for my absence (will be away 9 days) and to cover the first few days of my immediate return...
I have done the laundry and ironing and have hung aside the partywear (shirts for my husband and 2 sons, so that all is fresh and ready when needed)...
Have been spring cleaning, doing all the heavy lifting pre-op such as digging out the artificial Christmas tree and lights from the basement (I am allergic to the real pine trees!), finding all the right Christmas accessories (table cloths, decorations etc).
I have just a couple more Christmas presents to buy and wrap.
I have been out with friends on a one to one, taking my time with each.
I have put in extra hours at work, to set up files for 2008, done all my filing, cleared my loose ends...
I have booked for a week upon my return from surgery my hairdresser, a facial, a head, neck and shoulder massage, for the second week home a reflexology session.
I have started a thorough body scrub, waxing, pampering, nurturing period pre-op so as to "love my body" and make it feel alive again... Caring for my hair, my nails, my skin...
Polished my shoes, gone through my wallets and handbags to see what's hiding in the bottom...
I have been browsing bookstores for a post-surgery jolly good read, booked friends - one at a time - to come and visit me at home (well you know how busy and disorganised they are before Christmas.
I will be doing my usual rounds of "Visiting the Elderly" in my community, spending time with them, reading for them or writing cards for them, generally taking it easy so that when 2008 arrives, I'll be comfortable and hopefully sufficiently nurtured to start the New Year with a solid New Year's resolution...

This has been a very longwinded message. But my idea is keep yourself busy by doing what you can now before your big day. By planning to take care of your responsibilities you will feel immediately uplifted and "virtuous", grow in confidence and far less anxious as your mind will be on other things. Spend a little time each day thinking of your post-op future and what you can make to make your return as comfortable and secure for when you'll likely be feeling sad and sore...
Keep me posted!

Hi Karol, it'll will be done & over before you know. I know reality set in for me too when I started my pre-op diet. And then in the blink of an eye I was recovering from surgery. You'll do great.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement ... I haven't been too busy yet but I am intending on getting a lot of things needed to be done this coming week to keep me occupied.

To help me out my husband is doing the milk and yogurt diet with me when he is home and eating food when I'm not around - like at work and such like.

I'm now 1/2 a day into my pre-op diet and I am really hungry and the thoughts of popping to the shop or raiding cupboards have already set in because I am hungry .

I have a support group at the hospital tomorrow night so am going to get all the tips I can from the others there .. lol.

I will keep you updated and I will also get my husband to post on the forum when I have had the surgery ... which I still can't believe is in only 10 days

Keep plugging Karol. My surgery was last Monday. I lost 16 pounds on the pre op liquid diet. I feel great 6 days post-op. You can read about it on my blog below. Hopefully it will provide you some comfort.
Be Well.

wow there are a lot of us on the same day. I am also on the 5th and I am glad that you are all doing the prep work I am. My partner thinks I am neurotic but I rearranged the house, got the shopping done, put ip the tree, opened a second bank account so that if i need fund not budgeted normally they are set aside or in case we need something for the house I do not have here, someone can go get it, I have bought new jammies (cute christmas satins) so I can feel comfortable and cute after, I took the computer to my it guy to have him set it to remote connect to check in on work, I wrapped all christmas stuff, I even bought a new juicer and blender by wolfgang puck so I can make my own soups when it comes time. I have tried all the protien drinks and powders now have a 60 day supply so that I have a mixture and not the same thing everyday. We even bought a new bed so I am comfortable before and after. (We were going to buy it anyway we just did it now rather then after the first of the year becuase now I can lift 70 lbs and I do not think I will after the surgery. )

Can you think of anything we forgot that we should do to prep?

Also I am going to post a new tread but I was wondering since somehow I got suckered into having a christmas party onnly 2 weeks after my surgery, do you have any ideas for me. I am not going to be able to eat yet but maybe on the soft liquids so I was thinking jellp molds if allowed and pudding. I have a great sugar free pudding recipe for when they let me have it but I do not think it will be that soon.

Hej Hoping & Praying!
Another Pod member! I feel safe and love my "instant family" situation!
My husband knows how to surf but not to email so no much in terms of news until I return home. Apparently there is no wifi at the hotel and I'm in the wrong area at the hospital for internet access...
Are you a Cancerian? To be as organised as I?
Fingers crossed, my Dear!
Cheers!

Actually I am a sagitarious so I am a little anal retentive but it means I have to get it all done early. It is part of my agression I guess.

Thank you so much for your support. It is much apreciated. I am so happy to have everyone here in my life. I am thinking of going to the christmas party since it is so soon to the surgery so that I get in one last hurah before I go under. I also booked and recomend it to any one who is getting ready for the opp a spa day the day before so I can get a facial and feel relaxed. I think we should all get them.
