I hate Insurance Companies!!!!!
Well last time I wrote you all were so supportative so before I start my rant, thank you!
I was approved through Amerihealth with my old company. Went through the orientation with the place I was getting my surgery done. Was preapproved. In February some of you may remember I was worried about the $300 co pay for COBRA. I decided that $300 a month was nothing compared to the weight I would lose and health I would regain. So yesterday I was writing out the first check to COBRA (got my Ok from Psych exam so I was on my way, right?) When reading the fine lines, it says that COBRA would be terminated if I was signed up under another company. Well I am under Aetna (DO NOT TAKE THE INSURANCE, they are horrible!!) so there went COBRA coverage. I cried my eyes out. I haven't felt heartache like this for a loooong time. Aetna doesn't believe in the surgery and the place I am going for the surgery doesn't work with Aetna. I don't want to change places because I am so comfortable with this hospital. Moot point anyway because unless I can come up with $25K+, I can't have the surgery. Does anyone know alternatives? I re-fi'd my house in September and my credit is just awful so any loans are slim to none. Any suggestions??? You all are great and look WONDERFUL! Kristin

I'm so sorry that you're facing such a terrible hurdle. Can you get private insurance on your own that works with the hospital you like? That's the only thing I can think of.

I totaly understand your fight witht he insurance companies, they want their money but they sure don't want to help where needed. I have finealy won my insurance battle, but it wasn't with out a fight and I had to compromise with the surgery to be done. I was to have the biliopancreatic and they wouldn't have it, but they said we will pay for the gastric bypass, I fought for well over a year, lost a job due to the illness i have that this surgery will correct, but all in all the insurance companies are only out for themselves. I am sorry you are going through this tough battle, I would do it again if I had to but I am glade the hard part is over.

Kristin,
I'm so sorry to hear about the insurance. Dang, I understand how disappointing that must be! I wish I had the magic to change things for you. I do have the power to pray. I'll have you in my thoughts and prayers.
Best of luck. Fight the good fight! Don't give up.

Thank you everyone! I have just contacted the US Labor and Employee Benefits department. Hopefully I can carry both for a little while. I can't believe the heartache I felt! But, yes, everything has a way of working out and everything happens for a reason. I have had enough of the "why can't you lose weight, it's not that hard". URGGG!

Aetna I'm glad I met ya
I know a lot of people who had surgery done with Aetna being the Insurance company. It may not be your Insurance at all, it may be your Medical group. Are you a PPO or HMO Insruance Carrier? If you are an HMO you may want to consider changing medical groups.
Good luck to you.. it's worth it in the long run.. fight fight fight.. and when you think you can't fight any more .. fight even harder..
