Default Getting More Scared

I'm sure you've all heard this before but I'm getting more scared instead of relief that it's almost here. How many of you out there, thinking back, would decide against the surgery knowing now what it's like? I'm feeling like I wanna chicken out, but if I do I may never get the chance again. Are problems typical or rare. Does it depend on your beginning size, Doctor, attitude???? what? I just wanna be thin enough to feel healthy. I want my outside to match my inside, but not at the cost of a lifetime of uncomfortable and scary and painful doctors visits. Who here would change their decision?

What type of procedure are you having done? It really depends on the procedure, the doctor's skills, etc. on what types of long term follow up you'll need.

It sounds like you might need to do some more research to find the best fit for yourself and what you're willing to deal with post-op.

Like Leenie said you havn't given a lot of information about your date and situation, but I can say for me I wouldn't go back to my "old" life for anything! This surgery is a really personal decision for everyone but I'm very glad that I did it. Everyone has "buyers remorse" about 3 weeks out... when you feel crappy and can't eat anything and you wonder what on earth you've done to yourself, but other then that I love my ever changing body and the fact that I can keep up with my kids and that I'm a smaller size then I've been since my oldest (9 year old) was born.

Start by asking YOUR doc more questions !! go to a meeting!! read on here!! Ask questions on here? what is your weight now? what is your height? I did fine till about my 3rd month and then went to hell!! But as of the last week im doing some what bettter!!! Trust me it is the hardest diet you will ever be on for a long time till you get adjusted!! Some days I say NO i would never do it again, some days I say yes I would, but, what I should have done was the lapband,! But,thats another story!!! Good luck to you!! You will know if its right for you!! Laura

You would be abnormal if you weren't scared If you have researched til you're blue in the face and all is good to go, then take the leap of faith that you will be fine. Good luck!

Guess I was really vague. I am scheduled for the gastric bypass next thursday. My current weight is 238. I've done research and read several posts in here. It's the horror stories that got ahold of me. I talked with my doctor today and I'm feeling better. He assures me that i'm in general good health and all will be fine. Thanks for all the replies. Everyone here is very supportive and helpful. I know this isn't going to be easy, I also know i'll be sorry I did it. But eventually, down the road, I'll be glad I didn't chicken out. Thanks again

Karrie, I just read this and had to reply to you because I always said the same thing before surgery---"I want my outside to match my inside". I had surgery in Jan '06 with no complications and never regretted my decision. There's been times where I was frustrated by the whole thing, but never regretted it! I am probably considered a "slower loser" on here, but my doc is very pleased with my success so far and my goal is to lose 100 lbs by my one year anniversary date Jan 16th. I'm almost there and with sticking with the plan and getting my lazy butt back into Curves I know I can do it!

However, back to the "outside matching the inside"....I can definately say they match up now! Inside I was always full of energy and confident in my attitude, but when one looked at me, I always looked tired and frumpy and lazy. Not anymore! I look alive and healthy! I feel so good about how I look and feel right now, that even if I never make it to a size 5 jeans, I will be pleased and satisfied with my success. Food no longer has a hold on me. I am in control of it!

Best wishes to a wonderful start to a new life of being healthy!

Thanks so much. That's what I needed to hear. My surgery is in two days and I have been so nervous. I have felt so selfish for wanting to do this and risk my life in the process but I'm thinking that all will be well and life will get better. Looking forward to my outside matching my inside for once in my life. Thanks again for the encouragement. Will keep the website posted of my journey. Thank you all.
