Eric,
Thanks for the update on YOU. That always interests me. This post is really informative as far as the sleeve procedure goes. I'll continue to follow your progress. Nobody can claim you haven't done your homework!

Thanks for posting that Eric!
Dearest Eric
I too have followed your journey with interest, as I am probably the most impatient person in the world, and my admiration for people waiting for approval is enormous!
I read about this procedure, in the days before my surgery with Dr Dillemans in Brugge (he offers this as one of the choices), and thought that your post was very well written to explain the procedure in layman's terms.
This surgery makes sense to me, for all the reasons you mentioned, and I think you might be right - perhaps the new gold standard in years to come....
Good luck with your approval!!!

Eric, I know my surgeon and his partners are now doing the sleeve too. They discussed it recently in a support group meeting and also seem to be very excited about it. They also made the comment that they feel it will eventually become the gold standard.
I personally see pros and cons with both the RNY and the VSG. It would be a tough call for me but I totally see why your surgeon is recommending the sleeve for you. It does bother me that they remove the renmant stomach but on the other hand it seems that often reversals are because of the malabsorption factor which you won't have.
Knowing you, you will be doing your research and I feel you will make the best informed decision for yourself. Thanks for updating us. I've been wondering what has been happening with you.
Sir, you are beginning to rank right up there with the Baron when it comes to patience!

Eric, I've been through a gamut of emotions concerning your potential surgery, and all the pros and cons of both RNY and VSG.
Having said that, though, I am totally behind your intention to do the VSG since I "saw" you suffer so much without your NSAIDs through your recent gout bout.
Whatever the outcome, you have learned hard and well, and you are a TOTAL SUPERSTAR!!!
HUGS!

Excellent post Eric. I really hope they approve you for the VSG. I've been on the VSG boards at Obesity Help for several months now and I can honestly say that the people that have had it, are so pleased and very very few experience any complications.
I'm 2 weeks out today and I'm getting in all my liquids and proteins since about day 5. I've had no nausea, no pain (except a little tenderness at the incision site). I moved to full liquids about 4 days ago and doing great on those too. I'm down 13 lbs in 14 days and I couldn't be happier.
I'm off of my meds, with the exception of nexium (HBP; Diabetes; High Cholesterol). It's truly an amazing thing. I'm told my stomach is about 3 oz and when I first start to eat real food, about another month away, I'll only be able to eat about a half a cup at a time, but as time goes on, I'll probably be able to eat a cup at a time.
I'm so very thankful that I found out about the sleeve prior to my surgery. I don't miss that part of my stomach at all. The most amazing thing about this is I have yet to be hungry....that's a first in my life for sure, I was always hungy.
