Default Sleep Test?

Has anyone else had to do a sleep test as part of their pre-op testing? I have to go tonight at 8pm for one and I'm not looking forward to it. The thought of having someone watch me sleep is just totally creepy! Do they have a "bed time" where they'll make you turn your TV off or stop reading? I don't usually go to sleep until about 2am (college hours lol) and lying there is going to be really frustrating. I know I have to do it and get it over with but I was wondering how any of your experiences were. The paper they gave me said I have to turn off my cell phone and everything I know I'll survive, I'm just going through some stuff lately and I don't want to be alone with just my thoughts

It should be my last pre-op appointment, then 30 days before surgery I have to see my primary care physician, have lab work (blood test), and have an anesthesia consult.

So far I've already done,
EKG
PFT
Upper GI
Cardiology consult
Chest Xray
Abdominal Ultrasound
Nutrition consult
Psychology consult
Psychology evaluation
Pulmonary consult (where he scheduled me for this darn sleep test lol)

anyone have experience with the sleep test?

Whaen I had my sleep test they didn't make shut the lights out at any given time. They hook you up to this things that monitor you while you sleep. They came in about 5:30a.m. to get me up and shower. Then they let me go home. No cell phones is because it will mess up the monitors.

I wasn't given a "bedtime" either. They told me to relax and watch TV for as long as I wanted. It's funny, I did turn the TV off but didn't feel like I slept at all...until the nurse woke me and said I was o.k. to go home!

I was also dreading my sleep study but it's really no big deal. The biggest thing for me was not being able to sleep on my stomach because of all of the gizmos that were attached to me...but once I got past that, obviously, I was able to sleep.

And don't be weirded out thinking about them "watching" you. They really aren't "watching" you so much as watching the feedback from the monitors hooked to you.

Good luck...let us know how it goes!

I have one tonight too, I need to get the pressure on my CPAP machine turned down. They are the nicest people! And it's not so bad- they just watch monitors, not you.

Thanks guys! You made me feel so much better lol I'm leaving here in about an hour. It's some kind of split study, half the night I sleep without a mask and the other hald they pup the CPAP on me.. maybe only if they see I need it? I'm not really sure yet though. I'll give you the update tomorrow morning when I get home. Thanks for sharing and making me feel better!

Well, I survived! They had me turn everything off at 10:15 and get in the bed and just lie there.... it sucked lol But I'm glad it's over with and I don't need a mask so that's good. I had so much tape all over me I kept itching! The tube up the nose was a little awkward but nothing bad really. He asked me to try my best to stay on my back so I did and that effected my sleep a bit but he said I slept well even though I didn't feel like I did. I had to clap once in the night/early morning to have them let me up to go to the bathroom but other than that it was pretty uneventful. The tech said I was saying my fiancee's name in my sleep haha awww

I left my WLS for Dummies book in the sleep test hotel room!! I keep calling the sleep lab and nobody answers, I even left a message with my phone number and they haven't returned my call. Looks like I'll have to order a new one
