At least you have a pre-op diet, I haven't heard ANYTHING about a diet yet! I'm starting to wonder! Surgery is 10/30 and I have a pre-op appt w/my dr on 10/22, that's only a week before the surgery! What's up with that????

What kind of liquid diet is it?

Hi Linda B!
I soooooo understand how you want to eat something, it's completely natural, but keep in mind, this sort of "fudging" (pardon the pun!) is exactly what gets us all in the obesity fix to begin with. Sweetie, take this in the intention it was written - love and support - DON'T CHEAT YOUR PROGRAM! =) You are just a baby in this process and it concerns me that you are starting off from the very beginning with notions of trying to find ways to get around your surgeon's instructions. I do though, totally think your asking about it and trying to understand WHY the liquid diet, knowledge is power here, so don't stop asking questions, I don't mean to advise you against that part of it.
Yes, it is hard, nobody ever said it was easy but this IS the easier part, believe all of us when we tell you! =) It's best to just dig deep down and do it. This is one of the parts of the process where you will remember back on and be able to tell the first person who tells you in all their ignorant glory that surgery was your easy way out - and you can, with all the honesty and sincerity you have be able to tell them it was, indeed, NOT the easy way out.
The following was told to me by a major success story I met in the beginning of my journey and, MAN, she was right and I can never thank her enough for turning me around. Even if you don't particularly need this advice, it may be helpful to somebody else out there who does need it, it's saved my life.
Decide right now to change the mental side of this process to one of "This is really IT! I'm NOT going to run this program like I have run any and all other "diets" I have ever tried (and failed on)! Everything they tell me to do, I AM GOING TO DO! Everything they tell me NOT to do, I WON'T!" And you will be a major success story in the end! So everybody listening to this as a pre-op, if you don't have a post-op angel in your life with the hard earned advice mine had to give me, I hope it helps you too. YOU CAN DO THIS!! YEAH FOR US!!! =)

Default Hang in there Linda!

Hang in there....I promise it gets much better. I am 3 weeks (tomorrow) post opp. I had to do all Slim fast and water for 2 weeks before. The 1st 2 days were the hardest and then it became a little easier day by day. My mind was in the "zone" and ready to change my life! The 2 weeks really flew by and my craving for "food" I finally had under control.
After my surgery my Doc told my family it was "flawless" and he could tell I had prepared because my liver had shrunk and was so easy to move out of the way for him to work his magic.
I feel amazing and so happy that I have stuck to the rules.

I wish you MUCH success I know you can beat this!

Sweetheart..... I'm sure that on the scale of things, one "small" meal wouldn't be the end of the world.

Kinda have to wonder what's going to happen in 6 - 8 hours when that one "small" meal has been digested and you've given your tummy good reason to believe they'll be another 'small' meal coming along soon.

Is it really worth it?

Start hitting the warm liquids - that seems to help a lot of people.

redinsc,

There doesn't seem to be a norm for the pre-op diet.

Some surgeons want a good length of time, some just a 24/36hr period. And there are some, like my surgeon who didn't have any pre-surgery dieting. Just nothing after midnight.

We all starve for two weeks...but you will lose the weight they want...and then WAMMY...surgery is a go and you won't feel like that again!!!!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel...it's not like old diets where you have to go months and months like this....It's ONLY two weeks!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! Just keep thinking about the ENDING...stop worrying about the food...think about where it's going to end UP! Drink up...the end of your starvation is near!

It was horrible for the first few days, but it got to the point I didn't want food. I had carnation instant breakfast, broth, water, crystal light, and jello. Don't cheat!!! You do not want to risk something with your surgery. Get a buddy on here for support. PollyC and I were liquid buddies!!! It is good to talk to someone who is going through the same thing at the same time!! Good luck, Renee

I was shocked to read this as I went for my appointment on the monday and was take in on friday for my band being fitted.

I was only on the pre op diet for 3 days before so I couldnt undersatnd the 2 weeks rule?

Looks like I got off with that then or maybe in the UK it is done differently?

take care Dianne
