Default Psych evaluation questions

The doctors office did tell me they do require a psych eval as one of the checklist of things I would have to do.

What kind of questions do they ask?
What should you NOT say?
and what is important to stress to them?

Thanks!

Rach

I just had mine on Monday & was nervous about it, but it was nothing. We just talked. Basically he wanted to make sure I knew what I'm getting myself into, that I have realistic expectations (that I know there's work involved & this isn't a magic bullet) and that I'm emotionally stable enough to handle surgery. I'm a talker so once I met him it was easy for me. I can't remember the questions exactly but it was like I said it was nothing to worry about.

exactly.... don't stress over it... they want to make sure you understand the surgery - the risks, and no one is forcing you to do it (be it a family member or aliens from outer space)...

They'll ask questions about your family, health issues, and how you feel about the surgery. Just be honest. There is nothing to it. I was diagnosed with severe depression a few years back, so far it has been a year since I have been off the meds and I feel great. We discussed this. The Psych did warn me that I have a huge chance of relapsing for no apparent reason at all. It was noted in his letter to Dr. Callery. I have promised that as soon as I have an 'episode' I would contact a doctor.

The psyche eval, is just to make sure you are mentally fit and are capable of handling this huge life changing event!

Don't tell them about the bodies in the closet, don't tell them about the voices coming out of the mirrors and don't wear the bunny suit

Do stress that this surgery is a TOOL and not a CURE.
