Family & Friends reactions not what i expected - ThinnerTimes

I told a few of my close family members today. I must say i am surprised at how they took it. I expected people to try to talk me out of it, but no one did. They only asked me questions. I have gotten not 1 negative remark I am very please with this.

I so much (too much) care what other think of me and what i do. So to hear all the support and encouragement is so great. There are only 2 people really left in my family left to tell. I am putting them off because they are those "It's all about me" type of people. They only call me when something exciting, or devastating is happening to them, or they want something. So i am holding off telling my sister and mom. Not that they will be unsupportive, but i just don't feel they will really give a rat's ass. I guess i am being a little spiteful, but i am pissed at them right now. I will tell them eventually, like the day before. lol

But all together i have this GREAT sense of HOPE about this all. I am now officially excited.

I am so happy things are going well for you! Keep in mind dollface, even if people aren't excited for you. It doesn't matter. This is all about YOU, not them. You are doing this for yourself, because it is something you feel you need to do. It's wonderful to have a great support network, and even if you didn't, you'd find it here! Congrats!!!

I am so glad you are finding a wealth of support amongst your family and friends. You know we're behind you 110% too!!

You keep positive and keep on doing what you are doing.. not much longer before you are on the losing side.. can't wait to have you join us here..

I also do not have much of a support group. i havnt told most of my family as all i will get is the easy way out lecture. i know this is the "easy" way out. it is just the last weight loss thing i will need to do. I have only told my closest friend and his family and my step mom and one brother. i dont want to get into it with the rest of the family and try to explain what is going on. If the cared they would be closer to me and already know what is going on. Again I want to say that this is the best site I have found and I read everythig I can in here and it makes me happy to see caring and supportive people, Just wish you folks were closer. Any way. Keep up t he good works. cj

I used to think this was going to be easy. I dont think this is the "easy" way out at all anymore. After going to my nutrition class and hearing and realizing what i was getting myself into, the things you have to sacrifice.
My hubby recently told me after i had metioned how i felt like a failure. He said to me "you are not a failure, i think what you are doing is going to be very hard, and i think you are very couragous to do it" That made me feel so good about my decision. Becuz i truely thought everyone was going to say. Oh you just eat too much, you dont need surgery, just stop eating and exercise. This is not the "easy" way out. Out of all the people i have told NOT ONE has said anything negative. Infact they are all just happy that i am doing something to help myself. Do what i do, if i start feeling down, i just come here.
I talked to my Uncle yesterday, he had the surgery almost 2 yrs ago. I have very mixed feelings about his advise. The first bit of advise he gave me was make sure you drink, drink, drink your water. Then he started telling me how when to eat, how to eat, what to eat. He even told me "make sure you dont eat a donut and then go to bed" I though my God, why eat donut in the first place. It actually made me realize WOW! how easy it would be to go back to your old ways of eating, and i really need to be carfull. I dont want to blow this chance. However, he has really done a great job, he has lost 170lbs, in just under 2 years, and said he actually felt better the day AFTER surgery, then he did the day before.

That's amazing.
I'm Stoked, and it cant happen soon enough for me.

It is great to have support from friends and family, but it doesn't matter one way or the other. This surgery is the life saving procedure that will allow you to live again. I was basically a hermit by the time I got my surgery, and only a few people were still in my life, they all left it up to me. They supported whatever decision I made. There was no decision to be made, there was no choice for me, death or life, and here I am, amongst the living.
