It is a little early...
You're very normal... unfortunately, you just have a long time to wait. The best fear-soother for me was research, research, more research. The more I knew, the more I felt better about my choice.
Having said that, I still made out a holographic will, listed the possessions I wanted to go to various people, and made all the preparations I could for not coming back. Once I had done that, I felt better. There's a lot of talk on Thinner Times lately about fears--and I think part of the consensus would be that, the more you talk about your fears and the more accurately you name them, the better you're able to cope with them. This is a really good place to tha.
Fear of death in general is an unhealthy fear. We're all going to die eventually, and there's nothing you can do about it. Fear of this surgery, and possibly not living through it is HEALTHY fear. Of course you're scared! So, you do whatever's necessary to feel better about it until it's time, and then you leave it in your surgeon's hands and hope for the best. If you're not in pre-op counseling, you might consider it. It helped me.
