Hello to all, I am glad I found you today. I was not nervous until today, as I have been so very busy getting everything in order in preparation for Tuesday. This is my first post here and I am ever grateful for all the information posted. I will post my picture, updates as well.
I have a question: What would make the surgeon NOT do the surgery once I am in the OR? I have this fear that he is going to say "no go". My fear, I suppose, is that my stomach is too big or my liver too big. Anyone here ever hear of anyone who made it all the way to the OR only to wake up without the surgery? I am having Lap gastric Bypass.
Suddenly, I am having fear..

Hi Theresa!
Welcome to the group, I would imagine it's different with every surgeon. If a pre-op blood or urine test were to find you pregnant, that could stop it. illegal drugs, or an iron level that is too low...breathing problems...I'm just shooting from the hip here. If you're concerned about your stomach and liver, why not just do fluids for the next couple of days? You can do it, and you'll get through your surgery with flying colors!

Thank you ever so much for your reply! Unless the Immaculate conception has taken place again...i am not pregnant and I did have all my bloodwork done. I am on fluids however in reading the forums, I noticed many of you are on fluids for 2 weeks? Our only requirement is fluids the day before surgery (with small frequent meals as a pre=requisite). That being said, i am concerned that, having not been on fluids, I will have enlarged liver, or stomach as evidenced in reading the posts here. I am nervous and I appreciate your response very very much. Thank yoU!

Welcome and I have not known anyone who hasn't been operated on once in the OR...I'm sure if there was a problem your surgeon will let you know. I had the same fear to be honest. I had a hernia repair in conjunction with my Open GBS and thought he was gonna open me up and find a tumor instead and say nope, can't operate. But that didn't happen, in fact he found two hernias, repaired them and did the gbs and here I am almost 4 months out. Hang in there it is normal to be scared...we will be waiting on the loosers bench for ya!

Thank you so much for the reassuring words: I became most concerned when I noticed many of you who post here had a significant weight reduction prior to surgery: then noticing the 2 weeks of liquids posts, I thought to myself: I am doomed....I have waited what seems a lifetime...thank you again for your response and help along the way. I will be certain to stay here, I am so very thankful to have found this forum. You are all inspiring to me!

Default Hi podmate

Hi Theresa...you're the day after me. My doctor normally does a 2 week liquid diet, but because I just found out on Tuesday that my surgery is tomorrrow, obviously there wasn't time. Also, since I'm diabetic, the liquid thing is a challenge for me...so he told me to do mostly protein and low fat. I'm sure you're Ok and that every thing will be fine.

Wanna know my secret crazy fear about my surgery not happening tomorrow? I'm afraid my doctor is going to get in an accident and not be able to operate. I'm such a selfish oaf. LOL.
