2 Weeks Pre-Op and 2 Weeks Post-Op - Help!
Hi all, I'm new to the forum as of today and I have a question. I know it can be probably be answered by reading many threads, but can some one please give me a run down on what happens from lets say 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks post surgery? Everything from diet to exercise to doctor checks to 24 hours before the surgery, etc. If you feel like spilling your guts (no pun intended) on the process, please do. It will help me and I thank you!

Hi Bardley, Welcome!
The process is different for everyone, depending on your surgeon. Many are put on a liquid diet for the 2 weeks (sometimes more) before surgery to shrink your liver. Believe it or not, every pound helps, and a smaller liver makes surgery easier for your doctor. Afterward, it's more of the same, again depending on your doctor. The first few days to sometimes 2 weeks are clear fluids, advancing to creamy liquids, to soft solids...and so on. If there are surgeons in your area, I'd recommend attending a seminar...almost all of them do it to recruit new patients. It puts you under no obligation, and will give you tons of insight into how the surgeon runs things. That is truly the only way (unless you can find someone who's gone with that surgeon) that you can get specifics. Again, welcome!
LOVE your avatar...

Hi Lynda!
Thank you for you quick response! I went to the informational seminar that they held to recruit candidates, but I think I didn't learn everything yet.
This is where I'm at. I did my psychological computer test last week and my next step is to see the nutritionist, physical therapist and doctor. So, I'm early into the process, so maybe my questions are asked to soon. I'll probably learn more from the future appointments.

Ok, love the siggys too! LOL! You could call the office of the doctor whose seminar you attended. My surgeon's office gave us a binder with all sorts of information, regarding all aspects of the process. Have you done the 6 month supervised diet yet? Almost all insurance plans require that now. Pre-op is all about jumping through hoops!

No not yet, I'm told we're shootin' for November, so I'm way early in this thing. Thanks for the compliments.

You need to see your PCP and get going on a 6 month supervised diet. It doesn't matter if you lose 1lb or 10 lbs, it's basically a stalling tactic on the part of the insurance companies. You need to see your PCP monthly, document your weight and discuss what you've been doing...unless you have a super cool insurance that doesn't require it. Sometimes they'll accept Weight watchers, Jenny Craig or something like that with documentation. It's a pain, but it's part of the process now.
