Default Can this canceel my surgery?

I'm getting closer to my surgery date and now I'm supposed to have more lab work done. Like before Friday!

My doc is concerned because I'm anemic and have always had a problem with that. So more tests.

So the question is,

If I'm still anemic, will my doctor tell me I have to cancel surgery? This really worries me as I'm just 7 days from a pre-op visit to him and 8 days from surgery.

I'm doing everything I can to get enough iron in me and build myself up...if surgery is called off I don't think I could handle that..

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Teri

I think Rain had to had a transfusion before her Ps. Just be sure to stay on top of it. Trust me, the doc doesn't want to cancel any more than you want it cancelled.

Default take a step back here

You know, things could be fine, but anemia is a good reason NOT to have surgery! You have to have your cells working right to deal with anesthesia - better late than dead, eh?? My iron is a concern too and I have surgery scheduled for Friday, but if I'm not at 12, I don't want to go under! God help us!

I know - it is terrible to think of, but you will be fine if you have to wait. You may be able to work it in in not too long - a trasfusion, shot or whatever they do to boost it quick may just mean a week or two so don't freak out. A gastric bypass is a quick surgery, so they should be able to squeeze you in...One would hope.

You have to be at your best for surgery. Don't let your impatience cause you to make an unwise health decision! And again, maybe everything will be fine. No reason to stress unless you hear a reason to!

Default Thank you all....

for your thoughts and advice.

I spoke with my doctor's nurse earlier and asked her if surgery would be canceled due to anemia. Said no, that if my numbers were too low they would order a transfusion before surgery. Might mean I'd have to be at the hospital a day earlier...dunno.

So for now, I'll wait to see how the test results turn out. If surgery is meant to be at this time, then it will happen on time. If not, then it's not in God's plan yet.

Blessings,
Teri

How anemic are you??? Why have you had a chronic problem with this?? Do you have ongoing losses of blood (heavy periods, hemorrhoids, colon polyps etc). Have you even been worked up for this in the past??
