Gary, I'm not familiar with how the Barix Clinic runs the day of procedure, I'm from the other side of the state but I can tell you how things went for me. I suspect it is pretty much the same no matter where you go.
I had to arrive at 1030am. I was scheduled for noon. I checked in, signed forms, got weighed and answered a bunch of questions that the nurse had. I got in my patient gown, had the booties put on my feet to help the circulation in my legs during surgery and had a shot of Lovenox (a blood thinner). From there I was brought to the OR holding room at about 1115am. There I had my IV put in, talked to my surgeon and the anesthesiologist. I received some lovely drugs to relax me just before they brought me in the OR. The last thing I remember was rolling down the hall until I woke up in the Recovery Room. I had the Lap RNY and the surgery only took about 45 min. I believe I was in the Recovery room about 1 hour or a bit more. I don't remember much of it except the nurses asking me about my pain, nausea and making me blow on my incentive spirometer (the ball thing to help keep your lungs clear). They will also be checking your blood pressure about every 15 min. After some more nice drugs for pain and nausea I was back off in lala land until I was in my room on the Bariatric Unit.
I am a nurse and know that most hospitals do about the same thing pre-op, so I hope this helps out just a little bit. Good luck on your surgery and let us know how everything goes.
Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if you get a call from a nurse a few days before surgery. If they do that is an opportunity to ask how things go, otherwise just call the Clinic this week. I'm sure they will be more than happy to educate you on how the day goes. After all that is part of their job.
