Default 4 1/2 wks to surgery

Hello all. This is my first visit to the forum. I am finished jumping thru my insur co's hoops and am scheduled for my GBS on 7/7. I went to my first group support meeting last night and learned a lot. I hadn't planned on attending support group post-op but have changed my mind. I think it will be very beneficial to my doing well post-op. My support system at home is not ideal so I'm thinking this will hopefully take up the slack. I'm looking forward to attending the East County support group. Any words of wisdom or suggestions of how to get thru without going nuts?

Smile Welcome Pam!!!!!

Pam you have already made the first step, by contacting us here! I was at the meeting last night as well, I would have loved to meet you. To get through it all ASK QUESTIONS! There is undoubtly someone here who can help you. You can email Suzanne who is generating a phone/email list so you can contact people who are here for you! This is a great network and the people who are in it are the best. You have the support from brand new post- ops to the old school one's of 2 years + out post op. Stick with us and we will be here for you through the thick and the thin, helping out however we can. If you are at the East County meeting come up and say hi, so I dont miss out on knowing you again! Take care! Anything you need, just ask!
Bridget

Default Pam support is the key

Pam,

First of all, congrats on your date!!! Secondly I wish we could have met you last night. Seriously what Bridget said at the meeting was very true. You would not believe how suddenly your life is going to change.. for the better of course.. lol But on the way to your better life there are bound to be little road bumps or issues that you shouldn't have to deal with alone. I seriously think they should do a study on patients without support systems Vs patients with support systems.. I bet they would find the patients who did have support did much better then those without. I can only speak for myself.. but without the support I have had I don't know where I would be right now. So lean on us, call us, cry to us, we've been there done that..

Just speak up girl we're here for ya..

Hey Gerry,
Cool, finally someone who will be dragging the halls with me! I will be the third snail from the rear! I had to schedule mine out a bit as my "buddy" had some prior commitments. I am looking forward to the support group in East County on 6/17. I met Bridget at the Poway support group last week. I have to go up there this week for the dietary seminar. What are those like? Everyone have a great day! Pam

Karen, thanks for the clarification. I would have showed up and been really bummed. Well, I'm still looking forward to it, just a day sooner now!

Thumbs up July ops

Hey Pam. I'll yell back to you if you fall too far behind in the hall walks to get you pumped up.

The Dietary meetings are very informative. Not only do you learn do's and don'ts, but you get to hear others' personal food ecapades. I learned a lot at the one I went to in Poway (quite some time ago). I need to get to a meeting or two this month before I go in. Maybe I'll try an East County meeting as it is probably closer to Chula.
