Default I had my pre-op appointment last week...

and it went pretty well. My DH came with me, and I think feels a bit more at ease about everything. We saw the physicians assistant, and she is awesome. She will assist during surgery, and I will see her afterwards. She spent a lot of time explaining everything and how my diet will need to change, then she told my DH not to "badger me" throughout this process...LOL I had to laugh at that.

I am a participant in research that is being done for gastric bypass surgery, so when I had my lab work done, they took an extra 11 tubes of blood for that. It really wasn't so bad though, they only had to poke me twice!

After the appointment we went to the Nutrition center at the hospital and purchased my pre-op diet stuff (optifast) and my first week post-op stuff. My DH was so funny, he took all my boxes of optifast and sorted them so I had a variety of flavors in each 5 I grabbed.

I am feeling pretty good about everything I guess. Still have not told a lot of people. I hope I can get through the liquid diet. I am feeling very optimistic about everything!

Default congrats!

What is your surgery date? I have my pre-op either this wednesday or next wednesday---waiting on them to call me today. That is good your husband got to go with you to your visit. Is he being a wonderful dear for you throughout this whole thing? I'm not going to start on mine right now Are you having about 5 million different emotions right now, as am I? This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo exciting. I just wanted to say hi and tell you congrats on your preop appt. My surgeon doesnt require us to go on the liquid diet like that. I think they said all we had to do was not eat certain foods and fast the evening before.--something like that. Have a good day!

Surgery date is July 2nd! My pre-op was a little early because the surgeon and PA were going to be gone!

I had an abdominal hysterectomy in October, so I probably feel a little more at ease with this than I would have, had I not just had that experience. Too bad they couldn't have done this one at the same time, but my insurance turned me down at first.

Good luck to you on your surgery....you get to be done with this before me!

You know, one thing I forgot to mention.......I am considered a WLS lightweight, with a BMI under 40(barely under, it is 39.5). I got approved due to uncontrolled sleep apnea (after two denials). After my pre-op, I got my lab results in the mail. I am not sure what this really means, but I do not think it is a GOOD thing no matter what. A year ago, my triglycerides were at 340 (normal, not supposed to be over 250). I have spent the last year for the most part being much more conscious of my diet, making healthier choices, exercising more, etc. My triglycerides were 540 - that cannot be good. Maybe another indicator that this surgery needs to help me take control of my health.

Thanks for all the wonderful posts from everyone. I don't always have time to post (I do try), but I always read.

Wonderful news Lori! You are on your way! It's so great to have that kind of support from your DH. From now until you are wheeled into the surgical suite, you will be on a roller coaster of emotions. Just keep posting, most of us will have experienced the same or very similar thing and can give you some words of wisdom. Best Wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

Yeah, mine is coming up a little before yours. (If I don't shake this bronchitis they diagnosed me with today then you may beat me to the table!) Our goal weight is the same and our weight isn't too far off...I weigh more than you. I am 5 feet 4 1/2 inches tall..(they put 5'4") Today I weighed in at a whoppin 250lbs(around Christmas I was up to about 270) and MY goal is 140. The psych said around 150 but I think my surgeon had said 140. I will find out for sure soon. Maybe we can keep in touch since our dates are so close. Good Luck!
