Question New with questions

Hello all -
My name is Kate and I had Lap Gastric Bypass on 1/27. So obviously I am post op, I was looking for a forum for questions that I have and I found you all here to be quite nice. So here is my situation, I fasted for two weeks prior to my surgery and lost 17 pounds....now since the surgery I have gained 3. A tad depressing, I am eating a whole lot of nothing and I was wondering if this is normal? The no weight loss, I guess that I am anxious to see the scale tip to the other side. Please let me know of your experiences with Lap GP and how soon the weight comes off. I realize that i am not going to lose 20 pounds the first week home...just didnt realize that I would gain when I am eating close to nothing.

HELP - Kate

Cool Kate!

Your so cute! There could be many reasons for the gain.... water weight sounds like the most appropriate reason. Especially if you fasted prior to surgery. Our surgeon doesnt require fasting so we dont know that dilemma, however many folks do leave the hospital gaining more than when they checked in... again the water, IV fluids and anesthesia... that can assist with retaining water. Relax girlfriend, by this time next week you will have dropped 10 pounds! Good to see you, welcome!

Kate,

Don't worry...like Bridget said next week you will be down. You do get a lot of water weight in the hospital and it will come of and then some. You are on your way. Take care!

When you get LAP (I had open) They pump you full of gas. That is where the weight gain comes from. The upside LAP patience seem to lose faster.

Each person loses weight at their own pace for their body. My hubby had his done open and he lost 200 lbs in the first year alone!

Smile I fasted for a month before surgery

I had only liquid for the month prior to surgery because I was battling with quitting smoking, so I started gaining weight, even though I was on the liquids, and I gained 9 pounds in the hospital, I was so swollen I was near being put on diuretics, but by my first post op appointment I had lost 21 pounds, and it was nothing but rapid from there. Within two weeks I was wearing my wedding rings and toe rings, I lost near 90 pounds in the first three months. Right now I am still on my honeymoon I guess because I have to work hard to maintain the weight I am now at. I would like to weigh under 120 pounds because I am 5'1 or almost anyway. I weigh 130 right now and am skin and skin and skin and oh yeah, bones. I can lay on my side and rub my hips for a long time, to see my tiny hand is bigger than my hip is amazing to me. My legs aren't much bigger around than a can of soup. I only want to lose the skin now really, no more weight. I would imagine my skin is probably a good 20 pounds, but it does lay flat.... lol so with clothes on you cannot see the pannus, and even though I hate it, it is nothing what I expected it to be.

I still can't figure out this forum thing, and I rarely check my email anymore, I miss having it all forwarded to my email, and I just don't find looking for a reply to be exciting anymore.

Take care and God Bless. I miss Dale, newthindale, if you are out here Dale, I miss you.

Hugs,

Traci

I didn't lose a thing before surgery... I was one of the bad examples who went out and gorged herself thinking she would never eat again...

Thumbs up Welcome!

Hi Kate,
What you're going through is normal. Soon you will see the results you are looking for. Remember that you don't really want to count on the number on the scale as much as the inches you are also losing. Make sure you are keeping monthly measurements to also measure your successes. It will all work out. We've all been there are still going through the plateau's and rapid weight loss...all within weeks. At 6 weeks, you should be on 3 meals a day. Don't skip any of your meals, especially breakfast...and...focus on eating your protein before anything else.

Welcome to the forum! You have found one of the best places to be for honest and continuous support. Everyone that posts here is extremely nice, helpful and as friends should be, brutally honest.

Please keep posting here.
